the first olympic tri of the year is in the bag!!! went very well.. not great but very well for an early race.
first....this is an great olympic tri/du about 2 1/2 3 hrs away in pokagon state park Indiana. it is put on by the local club and draws about 150 people....age group winners get very nice plaques and plenty of very cool door prizes...the water is a cool 62 degrees....rolling bike with an abundance of volunteers and police to keep the course safe....the run is all off road on horse trails and is very hilly...lots of fun after the 3 inches of rain Friday night.
the short report is......had very good swim (20:30), long run to T1 up lots of steps ( max HR )...picked up some spots on the bike and pulled into T2 tenth overall...had a great run until mile 4 and my side stitched up and I fades to a nine minute pace but was able to hang on to win my age group ( 44-49 ).
also the crowd and the athletes there are all super nice and supportive even the police seem to love being there and supporting the athletes.........and as always for the last four years the weather was overcast, damp, drizzly, wet, low 60's, and after the 2 1?2 hour mark it clears up to sunny and warm

Nice ! One of these years, I'm gonna head over there and race that with you. I bike there every March and would reallly like to race that park. Good work Steve (I still owe you a card - as soon as I get 'em back, I'll send it to you).
