This was my very first triathlon (except for the last Cleveland Tri Indoor race in March) and I had a blast. The race itself is a sprint distance to include a 400m serpentine swim in the pool along with a 20k bike and 5k run on campus. It was a crowded run on campus sidewalks with an out and back course compounding the issue. Also, although it didn't impact me, the bike course crossed a train intersection twice and I know some of the riders in front of me had to stop and wait for the train. The post race food was a bit lacking as well. And the pool, with a staggered start every 3 seconds also led to some crowding especially on the turns. On the upside, the parking garage right next to the TA allowed an easy set-up and retrieval for the bike and being able to stash stuff in a locker at the rec center, in addition to taking a post race shower was pretty cool. The bike portion had some short, but dramatic, up hills which I thought I handled well, but I need to do more on the flats and slight inclines.
Overall it was a very fun time. I've definitely caught the bug and look forward to race number two, hopefully in the coming months.
