well My prediction for myself was 7 for first mile 7:10 for second mile 6:50 for 3rd mile
which would be 21:00
what I did was
Mile 1 6:30 ( I tried to hold back)
Mile 2 7:20
Mile 3 7:07 20:57
5k time was 21:40 which is 6:59 pace ( I did not realize there was that extra 10th of a mile)
My goal was 7:00 pace. I am getting better at gauging what I can do. More race experience is helping.
I did learn something new
Michelle Mead told me I started out to fast and that I should have drafted off other runners
I had no clue that you draft while running
Is everyone aware of this? Am I the only one who did not know?
Oh well
One thing is for sure. Aussie Rob you are right about it being the most painful race. I sprinted to what I thought was the finish at 3 miles then sprinted the last .1. When I crossed the finish line it was the worst that I have ever felt. I was looking for a place to lay down I thought I was going to black out. After 5 minutes I felt great. Actually better than ever. Interesting how the worst pain produces the greatest feeling after. This is a race that I will Love/ hate . I am glad for those who recommended to me doing running races when not Tri season. My running is steadily improving.
thanks for all the input
I saw about 5 CTC members. Where was everyone else?
congrats to Michelle and Angie for getting first in AG mike

Nice work Mike. A couple of thoughts: - If you tried to hold back, yet, went to fast - no big deal. Just means you're getting your race legs. - If you started slower you may not have eclipsed the 7:00 average barrier - Drafting is HUGE in windy conditions if you do it properly - especially in longer races to save your legs. Be careful not to trip the person you are drafting off of. - Keep doing these. Banging out hard 5K's is one of the best workouts you can do to improve overall and longer course fitness. I heard that the course was nothing special this year... Too bad... I also heard that Angie had a real good race out there. Good work everyone.

Mark
I didn't remember until I read your post.
There were a few very slippery places. At least 1/4 mile each direction that I was slipping half a shoe length every stride. It encourages me to realize I would have done even better.
My swim I improved last year. . Now the run is getting respectable.
My focus is turning to the bike
While maintaining the other two.
