Is anyone looking for a 1/2 in july for a prep race? I am looking at Musselman in NY on July 11 or Muncie, IN on July 10.
Pros to Musselman: cool name, good race, nice setting Cons: far, costly
Muncie pros: flat, fast, less expensive, Cons: flat, boring
who is doing what? are you interested in either, can we make a road trip group?

I think you should man up and do both. :-)

I done mussleman twice and its one of the best run races i'v ever been at - real good people up there and a good community - the setting on one of the finger lakes is outstanding -

Muncie is not exactly boring. It is the oldest half in the world and after 30 years they know how to run a good race with a very competitive field. The run course is very nice and the bike course isn't too bad unless you have a problem with cornfields (albiet flat). I would describe it as 'no frills' rather than boring. What this means is that when you get to the finish line there will be a small corral with no rock n' roll and no screaming spouses, children or hotties (unless you bring your own :-)
I am going to do one of those 2 races. My thinking is that if I can take the extra travel time (twice as far to Musselman) and have the scratch Musselman will be the choice. Indeed, it is earning the reputation of one of the nicest (and mot challenging) half venues in the sport.
If I don't have the time or $ I will happily go back to Muncie.

I've never done Muncie but I really enjoyed Musselman. Personally I would say Musselman because the course has hills and would make you stronger.
I agree about the distance and cost. But they have big plans for this year.

I did musselman last year. Although they do a great job keeping the race fun and unique I have to say that the "hilly" bike course was mildly rolling. There is a several mile ling bike section that takes you through a path that is more suited for a cross bike than anything else. I picked up 2 flats and feel burned becaused of it. The run is hilly. Any race that gives you an option to take the stairs instead qualifies as that. Not a course to wear a race flat since there is some gravely off road. Besides that...great race. Especially liked the clear water swim and the ice bath.

I agree Christian. I loved Musselman last year and the bike "hills" were not that hard. The rough section sucked the life out of me but I came back for a good run...luckily didn't flat.
Your description of the run course...spot on.

I am doing Musselman. The distance is about the same and I have just heard great things about this race. Flat tires, not withstanding.
