FYI: I just received an email from Pacific Sports with their 2010 calendar. Turns out the GCT and the Cleveland Tri are BOTH on Aug 8, 2010. I know many of you do not participate in the Cleve Tri downtown, but I thought this was of interest. Kim

No doubt - certainly is interesting... I don't think that there are too many peeps that do both of these anyhow. Its too bad though because those participating in GCT won't be able to go watch the downtown race.

Well d**n! I just put in my request to be off for the weekend before GCT to do the Cleveland Tri also I did both this year - kinda liked the Cleveland one better (don't flog me! I'm not getting into that politics crap, I'm just doing a race!) but I feel more bonded with Mickey and the gang that ran GCT. Plus, my kids did - and are eager to do again - the kid's tri the day before. CRAP!! I just really liked doing the 3 loops on the shoreway in the Cleveland Tri, and I really HATED the hill at mile 10 in GCT. I guess I have a big decision ahead of me Why can't we all play nice and communicate to optimize the season and the (very few!) races that are actually LOCAL?? This seems like a simple request ... Work together! Here's an idea: space them 3-5 wks apart so that more athletes can do both (those of you that show more restraint in your training I, however, just fly by the seat of my pants and dive in, ready or not! So far, no harm, no foul) CRAP. Have I said how much this sucks for me?? (And I'm aware most of you are unaffected and are probably rejoicing a little) Dang.

Being a newbie I don't really understand where the whole "I don't like the Cleveland" started but it was a great race this past year. So Tiffany you are not alone.
I did both the Cleveland and the GCT sprint races this year and have to admit I REALLY liked riding on the shoreway too. Even struggling up those hills with my breaks dragging the whole way I loved the ride. So much that I plan on doing the oly this year.
Don't get me wrong the GTC was a great race too and VERY well run. In fact it was probably my best race overall race of the season but for some reason the Cleveland is calling. It maybe because I need to prove to myself what I can do with a working bike?? I guess we'll find out in August!
Which ever race you choose - best wishes in advance!

I enjoy the GCT course because of the nice venue and I can train on it. I think this is a huge advantage. I drove over 1 hour out to headlands on the weekends and did many brick workouts last season. Race director also puts a lot of time into free clinics supporting the club. IMO club members should be encouraged to support the GCT.

Well, after much consideration I have decided to do GCT instead of the Cleveland Triathlon. I am, however, bummed to have to choose and will hope that in the future they do not overlap because I like them both, for different reasons. I'll sign myself and my kids up by the end of December - this year the kids are getting the entry as a Christmas present - I need them to appreciate the value of my dollars I live 5 minutes from Mentor Headlands and hope to do some of the training sessions this year. Last year they just never jived with my schedule. I hope to change that, but if I can't, I know the course now and can do them on my own. I also have full intentions on getting my kids to the training session offered for them - this year is their second time and NOW they are feeling the competition bug I think Mickey is the bee's knees and liked him from my first interaction with him - I love his passion and support for the event and really respect him and what he's created with GCT. Now, if we can only get the weather to cooperate this year so we can actually do a tri rather than a duathlon!!! But if not, I'll know it was a decision made with the athletes' safety in mind and made for the best - then I'll just go out and do my best.

Do you know if the Cleveland Tri will be offering a discount to CTC members this year, and making the code available while one can still get the "early registration" price?
