It was this morning in Lorain County. What a lovely fall morning for a bike ride!
I think that's the last hurrah for the bike this year.
Question: If a metric mile is 1500 meters, why isn't a metric century 150 kilometers (or, 100 metric miles)? One of the many random thoughts I had out on the road today.

Must have missed you out there Matt. I was running the Inland Trail Half Marathon when I started noticing all the cyclists and remembered the Red Flannel.
Anything with 100 in the title sounds impressive.

Yeah, but in track I think they call the 1500 the "metric mile." No?

And that 1500m "metric mile" translated to swimming, too. The 1500m is occasionally referred to as the mile. Even swimming in a 25 yard pool a standard distance is the "mile" which = 1650 yards. That distance is not as close to an actual mile as it is to 1500m. In short, it all doesn't make sense, Matt. Alison

As the math geek in the family, let me try to explain. When they say metric century, they mean 100 kilometers, which translates roughly to 62 miles. Now if they say metric mile century, then that would be about 150 kilometers or roughly 93 miles. Now, who would actually say metric mile century? It is either a 100k or 100 miles that is the standard distance for those long local tours.

Further evidence that Americans are still not ready to join the rest of the world in using the metric system...we just do better with feet and yards

Right. who knows what the heck 28 degrees celsius feels like anyways?? it would be complete chaos if we tried to switch over....nobody would know how to dress for their run.
How much would a metric pound of apples cost?

Which weighs more, a kilogram of feathers, or a kilogram of lead.
The kilogram of lead, obviously.
