I too believe it's year 5, though the t-shirts say EST. 2003. I believe I've raced everyone. I keep track of my results, and the race, for me, goes back to 2005. Curious to know if the race truly does go back to 2003???

So, why was the swim canceled? When Matt and I rode past the lakeshore yesterday around 9 AM, it was choppy, but nowhere near what it was like last year. Of course, it did rain a lot, so the water quality had to be pretty poor.
Great job everyone!

Maybe something to do with the 2 triamerica events?

In 2003, I believe it was held at Edgewater Park and was called Triamerica then. It was moved to Mentor in 2004 and was still called Triamerica (my first Olympic distance race). In 2005, the half distance was added (my first half distance race) and the name changed to GCT.

If I recall, the Edgewater race was changed to a Du too. There was even a race at the Headlands in 2002 called the Dunes Triathlon. Basically same course as Tri-America. Was there for that one too.

I would assume that "the wall" is the same climb we do now at about mile 10
On race day I like to warn people that it's coming up and watch what happens when they ignore me and blast in there in the big ring

Kevin - is "the wall" the same steep climb that we do now ?? md It's either the hill we do now on Baldwin, OR the Sperry road hill that was on the course for the Half the first year or two (when the half was a single loop course). The the Sperry road hill leads up to the Arboretum, and the Dunes race made mention of that. Just before you hit the present day "hill" on Baldwin, there is a right turn for Booth. Head south on that for about 2/3 of a mile, then take the next left that is Sperry. You ride on that for maybe a mile, then you hit Sperry road hill. Quite a bit tougher in my opinion. At least twice as long, probably closer to 3x. Maybe not quite the 21% I measured on Baldwin, but lot's of 15-17%. People whined about it after the first year it was on the half and we haven't done it since they made the Half a 2 loop course, which was 2007 I think. As I think about it, the "wall" must be the current day hill on Baldwin. I think we climbed all the way up Little Mountain, like today, but went left on Morely instead of taking Pinecrest over to Hermitage and going left down by the golf course. The "Dunes" swim was way short, and the bike a bit short. And there was noone on the run course directing people. I remember running, then waiting for people to catch me and asking them which way to go. Then gapping them, only to stop at the next intersection and repeat the process. I think I ran closer to 8 miles that day than 10K. In the end, everyone in front of me was DQ'd, and then gave the win to me (though I had already left the park). I'm pretty sure I did not complete the run course as designed, though I ran plenty long enough.

Just wondering if anyone knows how the woman who wiped out around mile 18 on the International bike course (one of the long downhills after aid station) was doing. The paramedics made me stop and wait for around 5 minutes while they loaded her into the ambulance & one paramedic told me she broke bones in her face, lost teeth and was going to be Life Flighted.
I felt horrible for her...does anyone know how she's doing?

Oh man I forgot about that crash. It was during one of the training days, right? I remember skidding right past that left turn several times even though I knew it was coming.

That was one of my teammates who went down.
Last i heard all the important bits were in tact and she will be ok. I'm pretty sure they let her go home last night even.

Steve - this crash was yesterday
KC - though a very nasty crash - teeth lost - don't know more details - the woman who went down is in remarkably good shape per information last night.
