My kids did the race this a.m. and it was great!
I was really impressed with how well run it was by the staff and volunteers and how the kids really had the chance to participate in a "real" race.
Most of all, I was super impressed by Mickey and his pre-race speech on gratitude. Its very far and few between that you hear a coach talk to kids about how very lucky they are too even be able to have the gifts to participate in a sport. I also appreciated how he told them to thank the volunteers and to cheer for everyone. I felt like it was such a positive event on so many levels for the kids.
My only recommendation is that he gives the same speech to the racers on Sunday!! Its always disheartening to see the racers who are yelling at volunteers and just plain rude to other participants. It always baffles me! Races wouldn't be able to happen without volunteers, why some racers are rude to them is beyond me!
We will definitely be back next year for this and I would encourage every racer with kids to have their kids participate. It was probably the best sporting event my kids have been involved in yet.

Couldn't have said it better - on all points. Today's event was outstanding. On a personal note. My oldest shaved 10 friggin' minutes off of his time from last year. I'm most impressed with the little guy's enthusiasm. It was the positive atmosphere that made him interersted in doing this again. Good job to all.

I don't have kids but volunteered at the event and had a lot of fun! I think it's awesome you all get your kids active and out there. Obviously it's great for them physically but I think it also helps them grow and build some confidence!
