SATURDAY - did the OH Masters OW 2 mile swim - went like this.....
Stood on the beach and talked to some people
Tried to listen to the meet director give instructions but could'nt understand a word he was saying
Got in and the water was cold
Swam a long way - turned and came back - did it again
pushed hard the last 1/3rd mile but felt crappy
Got a nice little medal - reminded me of my comp swimming days as a kid, HS, college - good times - got a nice pic with Mr Smiely Tim
(edit - yes Aussie I do look like a HoBo on the pic on my FB page. It was simply a glimps of the future as I would become homeless later that day in PGH)
SUNDAY - did the Pittsburgh Oly - pure training day as I have been logging some good volume - went like this
Was completely unprepared when I packed stuff up on Saturday - forgot all sorts of stuff but did'nt know it
Went to Liz's house and fell asleep - woke up late, got Z and the Fooy, then went & picked Liz up from work. Drove to PGH
Checked into the hotel - went to dinner - came back - then got kicked out of the hotel for 'breakin their rules' - Homewood Suites SUCK
Slept in the car - ouch!!!!
Went to transition and promptly found out all the things we forgot - hahahah - like FOOD!!!
Had to run back to the car (1 mile) in bare feet to get glasses
Almost missed the swim start
Swam up stream, swam down stream
Rode up hill - long 6 mile climb - not steep but good work - got POURED on - rode down hill pretty fast but the wet roads slowed things down. Did this again almost geeting wiped out by some dude who lost control of his bike when going too fast down hill and hitting the white line on the road and totally loosing control
(FYI - when white lines on roads get wet they get VERY slippery - be careful - cause u might loose control of your bike and KILL ME!!!!! that's NOT COOL)
Ran - on pavement, crushed stone, and then rocky, rutty trail - turned and did that in reverse.
Got about 3/4 mile from finish and knew a few guys were comming up fast behind me. Vowed not to get passed, ran hard (but slow) finished - held them off though the one guy I only beat by about :08 sec.
Hurt like hell for the rest of the day!!!
Liz race too!!! First tri ever - her race went like this -
Swam - not super fast but made it - woooo hoooo
Biked - super fast - pasted tons of people
Ran - even FASTER - passed even MORE people
Won her AG
Drove home - found out Homewood Suites charged me DOUBLE for breakin their rules and getting kicked out - they REALLY REALLY SUCK
FYI - the PGH tri has had its ups and downs over the past 6 years or so. But the race is really on an up swing. Had over 800 participants and the venue is FANTASTIC - I can;t recommend this race highly enough. And of course it is held in the center of the universe - so what could be better - Go Steelers!!!!!
