Just curious who does this/has done this and what it is like. Do most of you who do it wear a wetsuit? I do see that you are then ineligible to place (not that I would anyways) but thought about doing this for experience. Thanks!

I am planning on doing this one - thanks for reminding me to sign up! I'll be going with NO wetsuit - 2 mile version - and I'll be trying not to come in last place! Haven't done it before, thought it would be a fun(?) swim to do before IMKY.

Just say "NO" to the wetsuit!
Race the race and see how you do. You might be pleasantly surprised!
I wouldn't find it very much fun to show up to a race knowing I am disqualified before I even started, which is basically what the wetsuit will get you.
I have done this meet in the past and am considering doing it again this year, too. They do have to deal with typical Lake Erie problems like the potential for low water quality after rain storms, potentially rough water, and buoys that don't like to stay put. But things they can control, like visible buoys and post race goodies, they do pretty well.

I am in for the two mile. It's a USMS event so while wetsuits are allowed, hardly anyone wears one. The only person who did last year was Tim Walsh and no one would talk to him.
Still haven't decided if I'll wear the high-cut leopard-print brief or the blue hibiscus-print brief that screams "ALOHA!"

Phil, I swam 1:14 last year and I think I was next to last. You can beat that.
I am gunning for an hour this year, as I am swimming much better and I've cut my ciggy habit to just a pack a day.

Matt, you don't have any of the classic solid white speedos?

Matt, you don't have any of the classic solid white speedos? Like Rob Reddy used to wear in the 80's?

Here is a link for the information... www.clubassistant.com/club/meet_information.cfm?c=1236&smid=1602&CFID=137045&CFTOKEN=38972916I was thinking of being a little crazy and doing the 2-mile, then the Winking Lizard and then racing Fairport Tri. 1) Because I am just dying to blow $50 on a near drowning 2) I will fully recover for Sunday morning if I drink 3-4 big beers after the 4 mile 3) Triathlons don't hurt at all when I am properly tapered 4) Durno does it all the time

Ha ha! That's great Beth! I was starting to think of the one mile w/o wetsuit. The two mile may require a rescue as well. I certainly would be last! It sounds like a lot of people are doing winking lizard so that'd be fun but I know there's quite a few good peeps doing Huntington and I'd like to be competitive but what the heck!

I'm doing the 2 mile and Sweet Corn 100-miler. We're all crazy....especially compared to non-triathletes.

As a reminder, deadline to sign up online for the Open Water swim is Monday, July 20th - and you have to mail your one-day registration to the race director if you aren't already a member of USMS prior to the race.

Will there be a CTC booth at the swim? I might come down for support.

We'll have a sizeable presence at all the events, and possibly a slightly more formal presence at Huntington, but that's it to the best of my knowledge

I ended up signing up for the 1 mile and plan on doing it without the wetsuit. However if the weather is uncooperative and it's rough I will end up a volunteer!
