Yesterday I finished the Xterra Torn Shirt triathlon at Bishop Lake, Brighton Recreation Area, Brighton, MI. It was a .5 mile swim, 15 mile MTB and 6 mile trail run. The water was clear and a glorious 77 degrees. The MTB course on Murray Trail had a few puddles, but was in decent shape. Not a technical ride at all, but there was the Michigan sand to deal with and a lot of short burst climbs. Torn Shirt trail was the run course and it had a lot of steep up and downs and was much more technical in nature. My total time was 2:46:27. That gave me 63/106 in the overall rankings and 8/11 in my age group. If you're curious about the overall results, here's a link: www.eliteendeavors.com/results/t ... tri_oa.htm. As far as my split times went, I was 86th in the swim, 66th on the bike, and 58th on the run. The bike was my definite strength, as I passed about a dozen folks. I caught a handful on the run as well. It amazes me the athleticism of these people. I know how hard I work to train and I didn't even crack the middle of the pack. The 1st place overall ran a 6:19 mile on the 6 mile trail run - probably the toughest trail I've ever run. All said and done, I'm very happy with my performance. I felt strong the whole time, no cramps, no mechanicals and crossed the finish line smiling. Now I know what I can do to take it up a notch at Xterra O.N.E. at West Branch!

i can hardly believe that run time for the winner, he bested the next best runner by :40/mile. I would have been really happy with a 10 min/mile pace for myself. it was a fun race and a true challenge.

Wow.... a 6 mile trail run really puts the advantage back to the running - neutralized the MTB a bit. Nice work Bret & Bryan.
