I would like to do a long ride this weekend and was hoping to hit up some of the Cleveland Metro parks that I haven't been to before, without having to pack up the bicycle and drive.
Is there a good way to get from the University Heights area straight south to the Bedford Reservation? I am a fairly bold rider and willing to ride in some busy areas, but getting across 480 appears to be limited to roads with freeway access that are crazy busy.
Any suggestions?

What do you mean by "straight south?" I get over there by taking River road to Hawthorne parkway in the S. Chagrin reservation. You can follow the parkway in and through the Bedford reservation all the way to lakewood, or shoot south into the Cuyahoga Valley near Tinkers Creek and Brecksviile.
Without going all the way down to River you could take Shaker to Brainard to Cannon Rd....then head East on Cannon to shoot over to Hawthorn Parkway and head towards Bedford (sw). Brainard is probably nicer to ride than River Rd., it just isn't scenic.

I usually do take River Rd to S. Chagrin, as you described, but then I don't get to see too much past Bedford before I have to turn around to head home. I was hoping to cut out the extra mileage to the east in order to explore more of the metro parks to the west.
It does look Brainard is the safest way. That only cuts out ~5.5 miles, but that is 5 hilly miles, so it might be worth it.
A couple of friends are having a cookout in Lakewood and I kinda wanted to ride there from home, but I don't think my legs (or my rear end) are ready for a 65 mile ride right now. I was hoping to trim off 10 miles or so.
Still open to suggestions.
