Greetings All,
Some of you may remember me from '08 and if you do, well you have a great memory. After some successful racing in SC I moved back to Ohio, barely got any training in, and didn't compete in a single race. I bought a new tri bike I promptly put 35 miles on it total for the year. [20 of those thanks to the Monday RR Brick crew for lending the spares that I didn't bring along on it's debut ride.] I'm ready to go for '09 and preparing for a successful but entirely realistic campaign.
So the question is, having never raced in Ohio, what are the good races, the must-dos, the avoids, and the rest? I've found the race calendar but that only gets you so far. Input appreciated.
The '09 plan: -- focus on Sprints. [to minimize logistics and maximize potential for consistency] --planned races so far
30 May - Fly By Night Duathlon - Watkins Glen, NY 02 Aug - Cayuga Lake Sprint Tri - Ithaca, NY
Beyond that everything is wide open.
Thanks for the help and looking forward to [re]joining the scene this year.
Matt

Welcome back!
I have a few suggestions of races you might want to add to your list. Also I would suggest looking at the Cheetah Race Series on the CTC website for some others that are great races!!!
I have never done (but have them on my list for 09) the SummiTri or Clay's Park but hear they are both good ones. Also, the Lighthouse Tri in Fairport Harbor is a really fun race and a decent course. And then the GCT! I thought that the bike course last year was a good challenging course and it is always a really awesome event and tons of CTCers participate in some way!
Good luck!!!

I think there are some must do races around here that should work well for you.
Buzzard Du (NCN racing) Maumee sprint (HFP racing) Huntington sprint (NCN racing) GCT (North Coast Multisports) Vermillion (HFP racing)
All good, all close (to NE ohio), and some have the option of stepping it up to the olympic distance if yur training goes better than you expect.
Good luck.

If training goes better than I expect I'm not going longer... I'm going faster. 1 hour 0-something minutes is what I'm aiming for this year.
I'll work on a race calendar, thanks for the suggestions.

I would suggest you look at the HFP web site and see their calendar (www.hfpracing.com) they run a number of races in Ohio and neighboring states - mostly sprint and oly's du and tri pretty well organized and consistent

Ditto all the above. Good local races are put on by Champ, NCN, and NC Multisport. HFP puts on a great basic race - courses well marked - price is right - and a couple of their events are close to home.
