It was a cold, but spectacular morning. The grass was frosty white. The icecycles were hanging off the bicycles (seriously - from the moisture in the air during the drive over). 5 athletes, bundled in a couple layers of non-cotton fabric, lined up for the showdown of the year (Beast titles on the line). 5 athletes, all wondering why they endulged in Octoberfest Ale the night before... I'll spare you the details, only to say this: If the weather is as good as it was today in two weeks, I hope to see a lot of you on the course come the first Sunday in November. The Du series is a very casual race and a lot of fun. The course is really good - soft packed trail running and a rolling bike course that is better than many of the courses we pay big bucks to race on. And for those of you afraid of the cold - we were all shedding layers at various stages as the sun got above the tree line shortly after kick-off... Thanks to the fantastic 5 (volunteers) for the assist and the cheerleading !!

Sounds like a nice day Mark. I meant to make it but had to take my son to a work assignment. I will try to get there next time. It did end up being a nice day I ended up on the bike in the afternoon and although sunny was still a bit brisk so I can imagine the bike was pretty chilly for you guys.

Mark summed the day up very well. Yes, I was concerned when there was ice on my bike as I racked it, but I was more concerned when I was watching Durno ride away from me on the long, slow climb early into the bike course The Mantua area is absolutly beautiful this time of year and the rolling hills provided for a very, very scenic ride. Thanks Janet for organizing this series!!! And, thanks to the volunteers for your time and cowbell!!
