I did some riding last week and noticed that right behind my knee, I had some soreness about 15 miles into the ride. I didnt think much of it just maybe some slight cramping. However, I rode again yesterday and about the same point in the ride the same thing happened, but its not a cramp, its more like a ligament soreness. It only happens on my right leg, and it only started last week. I havent made any changes to my bike and have been fine all summer. Has anyone had this happen or might know why it might happen? Any help would be very much appreciated.

I had something pop up last winter behind my knee due to overuse on the bike. It stuck around for months (all winter and early spring) and I had to take it easy on the bike/running until the weather broke this spring and symptoms dissapeared.
The general rule of thumb is pain behind knee pain is:
a) pain in the back of the knee is saddle may be too high
b) pain in the front of the knee saddle may be too low
Matt is right that this may be the cause, but use caution when making adjustments, especially if you are still training hard. Adjustments should be very incremental....a couple mm at a time.
In addition to Matt's thoughts on saddle height, I was thinking that it has been colder lately so maybe you may not have gotten fully warmed up, coupled with the fact that you have most likely been training hard for some time now and overuse injury's are common due to overall fatigue; especially if you are new to cycling. Maybe this is a sign that it is time to start your periodization cycle over??
