When it comes to hips, and hip labral tears, make sure you do your homework on surgeons and methods. I am not positive who is the best, I just know that hips are very tricky because the labrum is extrememly strong and extremely important.
I can make a phone call in the morning to a good friend of mine at CCF, Paul Saluan, MD [ Orthopaedics ]. This is a great department because they push education in the Ortopaedics department and tend to be in the early part of the curve on new and best methods. Be sure you have someone who specialized in this problem, rather than simply a general ortho who does everything, wspecially if you are young and looking to remain active.
Give me until the end of the day and I can get you more names. However, Panagutti's group is known to be good (the one already mentioned above) and they should be very straight with you.

thanks for the kind responses. i have one of those angio mris scheduled at Cleveland Clinic downtown in a week to confirm the existence and extent of the tear, etc. i want to have all the ducks in a row so i can get this pain behind me, rehab over the winter and get back in the game come spring. i currently go to Paul Gubanich at Strongsville (ortho specialist) but don't want to overlook anybody who might have a great reputation in the community. wonder if the guys in Middleburg Heights have a sports background? thanks again!

I know that the Orthowest guys are team physicians for many of the local sports teams..football, soccer, etc. They also do the physical therapy through their office so they can ensure that the proper PT is being done.

quick update: the guys at the Cleveland Clinic say i may need a hip resurfacing procedure. it sounds kind of cool: they pop your hip out of your butt, pop off the cartilage, and coat the head of the femur and its socket with some cobalt chromium material, then pop it back in and you've supposedly got another 5 to 10 years of running before the total hip replacement is necessary. scary but pretty interesting. appt with the surgeon in january. hey! maybe i can run again! nothing like a little hope ... thanks for all the advice.
