Has anyone ever done the trail run down at Hocking Hills before? It's Sat 9/20 5K, 10K, 20K, 40K, 60K distances. Thinking of doing the 20K since I will actually be down in Columbus that week. I know I loved hiking down there when I was in school and thought it'd be fun!

Hocking Hills is a great place for a trail race. If it wasn't 3 1/2 hours away, I'd go. It's still over an hour away from Columbus. From what I've heard of the race, everyone doesn't start together, which makes it kinda strange. Someone on the www.verticalrunner.com message board may have actually done the race and have some first hand knowledge. I'm doing a 25K tail race in Youngstown that day and will have plenty of room in my car if anyone wants to share a ride. www.teampr.info/yutc50K.html

Chuck, I'm also doing the 25K at Y-Town. It's my first time for this race and I'm guessing it is as hilly, or more so, than the Mill Creek half-marathon course. Am I correct?

Don't know the half marathon course. I have run the entire 25K course. The first 3 or 4 miles have some very steep but short hills. Only one or two big hills after the first 4 miles, and nothing worse than the hills in Brecksville reservation. A fair amount of rock, I'd recommend trail shoes. Ride share?

The Distance Classic half is a little more brutal on your body than the YUT-C 25K will be. The DC 1/2 has 24 hills over the 13.1 miles. The trails at Mill Creek park tend to smooth out the majority of the hills and you will not experience the up and down of the 1/2. You will still be walking sections of the YUT-C course though. There are a couple of steep ones thrown in there. Also a portion of the 25K involves two circles around Lake Newport, which is the flatter part of the park.
Trails are much less stressful on your body then pounding pavement. You should have a quick recovery from this event.
The rocks at MCP do not move when you kick them, so the recommendation of trail shoes are a good suggestion.
I run down there quite often and am very familiar with the race. If you guys need any more info, don't hesitate to ask.
