While doing a brick monday I noticed again that my calves start to "lock up" or tighten the long I am on the bike and when I start running I really feel it and have even had it to thep point where I had to stop and stretch it out for 10 min. Has anyone else had this happen and know a cure or a way to stop this from happening?
Thanks

Not trying to be funny, but this is why you do the bricks, or at least for me. My calves always tighten up, stretching on the bike once an hour and doing the same the last few 5-10 minutes before getting off the bike helps a little.
Typically my calves loosen up after 1-2 miles of running but at the beginning of the run they are close to cramping sometimes.

I have had serious cramping issues in the past and still do from time to time. Stretching is important but I have mostly have traced mine back to nutrition. Lack of water on a regular basis along with potassium can cause problems (oranges, bananas, broccoli all excellent sources) and also lack of calories and hydration during exercise can cause it. Search this forum for nutrition and you will find a bunch of great posts. Dave Miceli is an excellent source of information on this so search his posts.
I also had an issue once where I got out of the water and there was a fairly steep hill to transition (Morgantown HIM) that I charged up with cold muscles and really pulled a calf muscle which made for a long day. Getting out of the water make sure to ease into the run to transition or walk it so as not to make a long day for yourself.

I had a hugh problem last year started before doing the Double Iron. The problem followed into this year. Turns out that it is also attributed to tight hamstrings, hipflexors and improper hip alignment.
Gotta keep everything stretched and limber and aligned. The Chiropractor keeps working on me and that has helped alot.
I also started going to a massage therapist. One that can really get deep into the muscle. Other's usually didn't do much for me but this one... wow! I think some others go to her. Marcella of Gingercare.com
Now I am not so tight off the bike when I run and the run part of brick (which is now 1 hour) feels great.
