Yesterday morning I competed in my second tri at the Westlake Recreation Center. Overall it was a good event. Perfect for newbies. It is was 300 yard pool swim, 12 mile bike and 5K. The entrance fee was only $25 for a Westlake Recreation member and I think $35 for a non-member. This race is not well publicized. I think the race is a good race for a newbie, who is just becoming comfortable in the open water. (This as I mentioned was a pool swim.) If anyone would like more information on this race please let me know. I can in 3rd in my age group. OH I forgot to mention there werte only 3 in my age group.

yeah - I got my first ever AG win at the event (of course, i was the ONLY male 30-39), but managed 3rd overall (I don't feel one bit bad about getting smoked by that 16 year old guy who just won at Huntington).
I agree - good first timer event because of the pool factor, and the rest of the course is nice as well. The run was a bit on the long side...I mapped it at 3.4 miles. I talked the the aquatics director up this morning about a couple pros/cons about the event, including a little more "authentic" transition experience...I think that's the weakest point of the event - that you are either leaning your bike against a tree or lying it on the ground, not to mention hurdling over bikes as you run through transition to your own gear!

5?? years ago that was my first tri. I usually do this one every year with my now 10 year old daughter. She thinks its cool to do a tri with Mom. Adults start first and they bike out on road. Then they start the youngest ones... I usually had to push hard to finish my race to see her start! Kids bike and run on the rec center property.
Overall very safe for kids to try it, very casual and laid back event. A perfect first timer, family event or just a little pick me up event.
unfortunalty daughter went to Girl Scout camp and I decided to do Corn Ride so we did not participate this year.
