I was just informed by a friend of mine that Ironman Louisville 2009 registration will be done entirely online. No onsite registration for athletes, volunteers, or anyone else. This apparently was a very recent decision. I believe this may have been done in response to Lake Placid completely selling out onsite and not offering any online registration. Here is the link to the Athlete Guide where this information is located on Page 23 (I'm not even sure where to get this from Ironman Louisville's website), ironman.com/assets/images/blast/downloads/LV%20Athlete%20Guide%207-23-08.pdfHas anyone else heard about this yet? This is pretty bad news for Danielle and myself. We were traveling to Louisville this year to volunteer and register, now we have to find a way to be online the next day, since we will be on the road driving home. We may have to debate going at all, since the drive home may limit our ability to be online at the same time signing up. We wanted to do our first Ironman together, so going there and volunteering was the best option. It is too bad they waited so long to make this decision, since many volunteers and others attending the race for the purpose of registering have already made plans. I understand why they chose to go this route though....

Your frustration is understood. It has become a real mess trying to get into these events.
The good news for the both of you is that the Galt house (Host hotel) offers free wi-fi. You are welcome to use my laptop and room at noon if you need it. Most of the athletes will be at the award banquet at noon, so you may get a jump on those of us racing. My guess is WTC is looking for a way to give everyone an opportunity to register. I wonder how many laptops will be logging on during the kona roll down from the awards banquet.
The new NA sports on site plan will limit my ability to do these races in the future. For the cost of two trips to Lake Placid or CDA, I will go to UK or Nice.

Phil, Past history shows this race will not fill immediately, probably a day or two based on sans wetsuit. If you want give me all your personal information including some credit cards with significant limits, and I'll sign you up that AM if you'll be on the road. I'll also have a nice high def flat screen and new tri bike that you can borrow next year if your CC limit is high enough. Rest stops on highways sometimes have Wi-Fi as do many hotels, just pull over for lunch near a hotel and sign up. It is late in the game for this change to be published, heard nothing about this previously.

Thanks Phil for posting this. I tried signing up for IMLP online at noon on Monday last week, and as you stated, they didn't even open online registering, since it sold out to the people on-site. I was planning on heading down to Louisville to sign up in person, so I might stand a better chance. I guess that I will be trying the online registering again for Louisville. Hopefully, it is open long enough online, so we can get in the race.

Louisville didn't fill up immediately last year so I don't envision a problem getting in, but Lake Placid filling up onsite certainly causes me some concern for Louisville. I would figure that many who were planning on doing LP are now planning on registering for Louisville, so we'll see what happens. It really is a bummer that volunteers won't get any perks. I wonder if all the IM races will eventually go to this type of registration?
Chris, I'll send you my CC info right away so that you can register Danielle and I that day. If you are going to buy yourself a new tri bike, you could at least buy me one too. We'll let Danielle fend for herself.....
I will have to plan on making arrangements to sign up, shouldn't be much of a problem, but this was some surprising information. The information wasn't that easy to find either....

FYI - per the athlete guide - registration will only be ON LINE but it is not until TUESDAY (but I would keep an eye on this via the IMKY web site)
Guess Active.com does not want to deal with stafing issues on Monday the 1st as it is a HOLIDAY

Hey Rob, where did you find that info? The only information I have gotten is from the guide I posted which still says it is Monday....I can't seem to find anything on the IMKY website about it. Thanks for the heads up on the Tuesday thing!

I emailed the contact at Ironman.com for IMKY. Her title is Athlete Services Coordinator, here is her response to my inquiry about registration for next year's race: Hi Phillip, Thank you for your interest in Ford Ironman Louisville! 2009 registration will ONLY be available ONLINE on September 1st. Please check www.ironman.com/louisville during that time for details on how and when to register.
Thank you and we hope to have you in 2009! So far they are still telling me it is Monday (Labor Day), if I hear differently I will try to update. Edit: It appeared on the Ironman.com official website about 30 minutes after my email. Here is the link: ironman.com/mediacenter/ironman-registration-notice-for-louisville-boise-and-rhode-island

I feel bad for those of you going up to volunteer and not being able to sign up on the spot. Although this is good for me (im staying home), i think that if anyone should be able to sign up first, it's the volunteers.
