Saturday race report #1/2
Alison and I were on a relay representing Ohio masters at the 25k open water championships in Noblesville, IN. Having never spent much time in Indiana, we were immediately impressed with the sheer number of semis that they manage to fit onto their roads. The relays were 5 people each swimming 5k, and we got our own wave 30 min after the solo swimmers took off.
I've got to say, after being in a lot of triathlon starts, this thing is in a league of its own. I'm used to being able to just go out strong and lose the crowd after 100 yds or so, but this time we started with an entire wave of swimmers. Meaning lots of full contact swimming for at least the first 500 yds. After that though you just settle into a groove and swim. The swim was in an arm of the Morse reservoir, and as such was mirror smooth.
My goal was to stay with the wife for the swim. Unbeknownst to me, her goal was to ditch me, which made for a fun 5k. All in all not bad though. I can definitely tell though that I'm not in swimming shape and playing runner this year (see shot in the dark RR).
This was a cool event though. Maybe CTC can put together a team next year...
