I pretty much knew that it wasn't going to make it online this year. We made arrangements to spend the summer vacation week there with the sole intent to sign Bill up for '09. OK, to watch the race AND help out through volunteering.
I would highly recommend the volunteer route (log in early and fill out your volunteer form online -- folks who walked up to volunteer on Friday were being turned away . . . .). Bill got in the volunteer line and was back at the condo by 9:30 AM. Jim Jacko was still in the other line which had to wait for the 500+ volunteers to sign up before they started.
Bonus being there for the week -- Bill got to do a lap of swim, bike, and run to get perspective for next year (i.e., he realized he really has to train - no faking it!!).

Congrats on Bill getting in for 2009. An athlete of mine wanted to get in, but never had a chance. He's already planning on a 'vacation' there next year. I may do the same in 2010. Give Bill my best wishes on a successful campaign at LP. How long before NAS starts charging to be a volunteer just to get a priority spot for onsite registration? Cheers, KP
