OK, folks we have the entries starting to roll in. You don't want to miss out!
We have had one schedule change which we wanted to point out. The Little Smokies half iron is not being offered this year. All of the slots are going to TTT participants. Anyone who is doing the TTT will get credit for that race.
Consequently, we are adding the next closest early season half iron, MedExpress Mountaineer in Morgantown, West Virginia.
We are currently working with local race outfits to bring the Beast Participants special perks such as discounts or fun awards... so stay tuned for more on that!
First Beast Series Event coming up soon!!! Winter Buckeye 50K on 1/26/08!!!!

I am glad to hear it is being rescheduled and it was no inconvenience; trying to get there last Sunday would have been an adventure.

Are NCN and/or Champ offering any discount on the next two Beast races?

NCN is not. Champ offers a "tri club" discount to any tri club member.

Don't forget about Buckeye 50k and the 2 mile open water swim that are before the sweet corn ride Knocking out 3 events in 2 weekends should get me back up into the lead

True, those events do fall first. The beast calendar generic July schedule is not in chronological order now that dates have been released.
Yeah you will move to the lead as I sure as heck am not doing that open water swim....my pathetic swimming butt would be fish bait!

Speaking of the Beast schedule, has Powerman Ohio disappeared? I can't find a date for it on any schedule.

|
|
Post by Janet E on Jun 26, 2008 9:18:24 GMT -5
Steve, you are right. Apparently there will not be a Powerman Ohio this year which is too bad as it was really a hard core duathlon last year.
Since that event will not be happening, we will be substituting in another event. With the Powerman being worth 110% weighting and in September, the most obvious substitution seems to be the Toyota Challenge at Deer Creek (Half Iron) which will be held on 9/14.
I will make the adjustment on the Beast page to reflect the change. Also of note the Portage Lakes Tri and Great Lakes Escape (moved back this year) now fall on the same day, so you will have to pick! Best of luck to everyone!

Check out updated standings here. www.clevetriclub.com/files/beast_series_standings-080108.pdfPlease check that I have all of your results correct. Huge season end prizes still up for grabs with 10 events remaining...still plenty of time to shake this competition up! Next up Greater Cleveland Half Iron!!! Beast of luck!

Has the Great Lakes Escape Tri been cancelled too? If so is there a replacement?

Janet,
Hey, just a thought! Could we do the "The Beast 09 Sprint" series along with the "The Beast 09" series next year......... I am not the individual that enjoys long distance in anything......
Maybe there might be more people interested in a shorter version.......

Ian, the Great Lakes Escape has been cancelled. As an alternative that day I highly reccomend the Portages Lakes Tri (also in the Beast series) which is also that same day.
Since the tri seasoon is winding down, for the purposes of the Beast Series, we will not replace GLE with a tri (as there are not too many local ones left to choose from). However being that this event was dropped, there will be an event added to the Beast 2008 choice races to bring the total races back up to 20. This event will be in October / November and details will be released as soon they are finalized.
Brian, interesting thought! When the Beast 2008 series wraps up, we would definitely like to hear feedback and ideas for possibiliies in 2009.

Another big weekend on tap for the Beast Series! Saturday is the Akron Marathon and Sunday is the West Branch Mountain Bike Race!! Standings have been updated here. www.clevetriclub.com/files/beast_series_standings-091808.pdf Again, please check your results for accuracy. Remember if you volunteer for Beast events, you will be rewarded with 10 points (for those of you who want some extra credit points!) Just a hint as I know Elizabeth could use a few more volunteers for her Towpath Marathon aid station. Steve Wilson is running away with it for the men and the ladies have a tight three way battle going on between Elizabeth, Amie and Janet. Also of note, as mentioned before we will add one last event, the 10/19/08 CTC Duathlon to give competitors an opportunity to pick up another race (in case they had planned on doing the Summit Freewheels Bicycle Race or the Great Lakes Escape since they were both cancelled this year). Happy Racing!

Reminder to Beast participants...
This weekend's (Sunday 10/19) CTC Headwater's Duathlon counts for Beast Points!
Additionally with regard to the Cyclocross Race on 11/16, there are three separate divisions. To keep things fair for all participants, the level B will count for Beast points.
Best of luck to all participants in rounding out the Beast Series. There is still time to make your last ditch effort to move up in the rankings!

Haven't seen results, nor have I seen any race reports. Was hoping to hear what you and Steve thought of that cyclocross mudbath. And sorry I didn't get a chance to chat with you a little more after the race.

Chuck, I was OK with the mud at the cyclocross; it was the snow and cold I could have done without. Plus, I need to replace that "inappropriate" bike before next year. By the way, thanks for the posting about the new trail race. I never would have seen it otherwise.
