Jodi, have you done this race before? I was looking at this for an early season Half, but it might be further than I want to travel (looks like 7 hr drive). Are you staying close to the park or in Fredericksburg?
Also, I saw it's a Sat. race?...complicates the travel a little.

I've never done this race before, but really wanted an early season race as well. We will be heading out on Friday afternoon and plan on packet pickup on Saturday morning. My training partner, Tony, is looking into accommodations, probably in Fredericksburg because the park lodge is sold out already. Send me an email if you want to talk about carpooling (jmthoms1(at)hotmail.com Jodi

Tim,
A lot of the bike course is somewhat shaded so it took awhile to thaw out. I remember passing the 5 mile marker and still not able to flex my hands completely or whistle at the hot women.

Calling Rob Reddy.... I saw your name on the start list!
Looks like a beautiful day on Friday may give way to a crap race day. We'll have to keep our fingers crossed!
Shoot me an email if you want to ride the course on Friday afternoon or do dinner. We're staying near Fredericksburg.

I'll be doing the 1/2 on Saturday. Trying to figure out the apparel needs now. I believe the lake is now 59 degrees. Man does that sound REFRESHING I'm guessing that we will start the bike and the air temps will be around 60. Take into consideration you just spent 30 minutes in cold water, Brooks stating that it is a shaded bike course, wet cloths, and suddenly 60 degrees will feel like really cold air. Yikes! What to wear...

The bike and run course are a mix of shade and full sun so you will get a variation, especially early on in the bike. I wore arm warmers with tri shorts and a cut off sleeve tri top and was fine. Well, I should say fine after I thawed out from the swim. If the lake temp is already 59 you guys will definitely be ok.
