I'm trying to talk my husband into riding this with me but he's not much of an outdoor cyclist. In fact, he only owns a mountain bike and has rarely been on it the past few years. However, he does spin 2x/week. We are debating on this issue: Should he rent a road bike for the day to do STOMP or ride his mountain bike on this course? I want him to rent...what do you think (to those of you that know the course) Thanks in advance, Carly

Ride on my friend, ride on! C'mon, are you afraid of melting? : ) Seriously thought as Matt says "It's the getting wet that's the hard part. Once you're wet, it is no big deal." And, I agree.

Think of the Tiger Woods/Nike commercial. Tiger says "rainy days are great for reading, sitting around a fire with loved ones and just hanging out." The screen pans from a nice warm fire in a den setting to the pouring rain outside. Tiger who is outside hitting golf balls narrates "unfortunately, there are no rainy days." See you out there ;D

The only way to keep it from raining on race day is to make sure that you are prepared for it. ;D
But here's a question- I don't have a lot of gear. Warm and rainy I don't have a problem with. Cold and rainy... Should I just bring my rain jacket?

I don't have a rain jacket, but Matt wears one in the rain. Hopefully, it won't be too cold, but it can't hurt to have it, right?

I was hoping someone would have answered with,
"your position in the rain should be no different than in the dry!!"
Guess I am just in one of those moods today

Oh, you were being funny! I missed that. Well, in your case, you should try to keep your position as staying on the bike. Again, beware the railroad tracks, especially if it rains!

lol
it is going to be cool and wet - so the key will be to staying warm and dry - best bet - layers with an outer shell
Now.....(and here is the plug) ....we still have CTC arm and leg warmers left over - so - if anyone would like to purchase a pair before tomorrow - let me know!!

Based on weather report, I'll do my long ride Sun. or Mon. and run Sat afternoon rain or shine.
Something for you diehards to consider. Parking is a big grass field. Think lots of mud. Might consider parking at Ira or Bolanz road trailheads.

I do melt in the rain.... ha ha. seriously... I will bag the ride if it is pouring at around 7:30 or so. For a 1 hr drive and 30 mile ride-- it is not worth being miserable this late in the season for me. Plus, jason will not want to do it either. Let's hope the weather report is wrong. ANGIE

I'm starting to feel like I've been hit by a Mack truck. I'm hoping it's just allergies and the Allegra will help... but if I wake up with a fever or complete inability to breath out of my nose I might have to bail. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Matt,
The moral of the story is that to be your best it takes hard work and dedication without giving in to excuses. I was using the commercial reference as inspiration to push people out and ride as STOMP will be both fun and a good training venue. It may also make you a better golfer too although I wouldn't know. I personally don't think rain and golf mix well with the metal clubs and lightning combo.

Yeah, I may be easily persuaded into purchasing some arm or leg warmers as well if extras happen to be there tomorrow morning.
I would say see ya there, rain or shine...yet I think the idea of shine is out!

I made it out and we did the 32 miles... toes were a little cold but we were fine. Actually... I enjoyed it.. the rain made everything look very green. Standing around in the rain for lunch was not very pleasant though.. I saw matt c. on the road but missed others. I did see Jim and Laurie.. they were in good spirits and were planning to do the 66. Good Spirits...!?! Ok, maybe for the first 300 meters...but then my shoes filled up and Laurie rooster tailed me with black goo... not the Texas gold kind but the Ohio road spew and then I was in Hawaii....mentally speaking for the next 30 miles.
We had a great time...it was good to see the few who made it out. However, we only did the 32 - thats what we signed up for.
More importantly we made it safe and the sun is out on Sunday morning...looks like a good day to ride!
