Anyone ever done this race before? Where should I stay? I have people I know that live in Cinci and burbs of cinci. How far away is this from the start / finish?
Thanks, Brian

Brian,
I did GBC 2 years ago. It was my first 1/2 IM distance race and one well suited for a first timer. The swim is a two loop affair in Caesar Creek lake, the water was relatively clear for an inland lake. The run-out to T1 somewhat lengthy. Bike course was flat to rolling, no real huge climbs to speak of. I think I came out of the saddle once the entire race. Bottom line: this is a pretty fast bike on some really nice roads. Run course was a bit tough unless they have changed. The course back in 2004 was a two loop run on fire roads, across a dam and then onto some lesser traveled roads. The course also has a rather steep hill that you descend then turn around and climb [remember, you have to do this twice]. I am not a big fan of steep hills, in particular, a steep descent. Save a tougher than average run course, this was a well run race with a great turnout and some top competition. I stayed with family in Butler County, Liberty Twp to be exact. I was able to take some back roads to the park and the trip was less than 30 minutes. If your fam/friends are in the northern suburbs of Cinci, you should have a very easy time getting to the park. Best of luck!

I did this in '04 also and had a great time. One climb at mile 40 of the bike had me out of the saddle. I think the run course has changed to a single out and back. the steep hill is still included but you only have to do it once. One option is to camp at the park. There is also a large hotel one exit north on I-71.
