Has anyone done this race? What is it like? Who is planning on racing this year? Where do you stay?

I did this last year. It was a nice race, very fast course. I think the only noteable hill on the bike is at the end, coming up from the dam(If you are familar with Alum Creek you know the hill). I have probably raced at Alum 5 or 6 times and every course incorporates "the dam hill". There are tons of hotels in the area, you can also camp if you like that kinda thing.

Great Race FRR do a great job - swim is warm - bike is rolling hills at best - with one hill at the end - small chainring seated climb.
Run is a nice mix of trail and road - all very safe.
I am fortunate that I have family that live about three minutes from the race start!!!

I may be doing this race - still up in the air. If I do though, I have many friends in the Columbus area since I went to college at Ohio State. I will be staying with them and I am sure some of you can join aswell - I'll let you know mid-may my plans.

I've done this race and a few others at the same local - like said above - the venue is nice FRR does a great job. The lakes is very managable - can be warm - would have to have pretty good wind to get any chop. the bike is way easy - the oly course has no hills save the one at the end which is not hard - maybe 1/3 mile long - you really can spin up it - the HIM course does have some rollers but they are fairly small - you can PR on the bike easily - the run has some trail to start - not as nice as the toe path - but very managable and only about a mile or so long. rest is road - very nice surface
i would highly recommend this race

Is this race the same as what is put on as the Wendy's International Triathlon on June 11th? I will be racing the Wendy's Tri.

Lou, same location, different promoters. Wendy's is Ultra-fit, the other is Fat Rabbit Racing.
Angie, race site is only 30 minutes from Columbus. Practically the suburbs. As allready stated, lots of hotel options, or only about a 2 hour drive if you wanna get up REAL early.

Papa Louie - Same park as Wendy's but totally different race set-up. Wendy's is swim along beach in swim zone - water is very shallow and people tend to stand up and rest or dolphin swim. The FRR event takes you out into the reservoir. The bike course for Wendy's will be the same as our sprint course since the RD changed the bike course to match the FRR course. I don't blame them though because the old course was on SR 36/37 & was a little scary. Run course is totally different. Both races are good but you can guess which one I favor you participate in if you can't do them both! Regardless of event, I hope you have a good experience.

I MUCH prefer the Fat Rabbit events to the Wendy's race. Lou, if you're already signed up for Wendy's in June, go back in August and do the Fat Rabbit Racing Triathlon and you'll surely see what I mean. I am doing both because I like the venue and FRR so much! Anyone else considering doing multiple FRR races should purchase one of their multi-race packages - significant discounts on entry fees. If you click the link which will take you to active.com, you can then click 'register now' and see the list of multi-race options and prices.
