Anyone running this? I heard that I picked a tough one for my first marathon. Has anyone run this before? Anyone running it this year?

Pretty sure I'm running it. Did it last year. Tough course but you know the uphill is miles 6-12 through MT adams. Be aware of a tough uphill at mile 24. I would stay on the Kentucky side hotels. Stayed at the Hyatt in Cinci which was a host hotel and they did a poor job providing for runners. Had enough breakfast food for 10 runners not 200 that were there. Heard the KY hotels did a better job. Packet pickup is also on the KY side at the convention center. Good Luck.

I did it last year and had a BLAST. I stayed with friends so I don't know anything about the hotels. If you can, I would suggest to do some training at Hinckley Reservation. I did a few long runs there and it really made the hills at Cincy seem insignificant. Great crowd support and a very fun time!!! Enjoy!

I did the Pig two years ago and it was a lot of fun. I remember the long steep hills between miles 6 & 9 or so but there is a great payoff at the top with a beautiful view of the Ohio River below. It rained the whole way but the crowd support was great and there was a whole lot of hoopla to keep you entertained. The finishers medal they gave was also pretty unique.
I am still trying to figure out how some of the runners run the whole race with a pig nose strapped over their faces but there was a lot of them.
I may do the half marathon but have not decided yet.

I did it - I think in 2004. Must have been the same year as JAck because I remember rain all the way. The hills aren't so bad. Too many relay runners.
Story - I had on an old shirt and sweatpants before the race began. They were basically expendibles, but for the heck of it I put them in a plastic bag, marked it with my bib number, and put them in the truck for transport to the finish area. So 4 hours later I am in the finish area and its rainy and cold and I just want to get the hell out of there and back to my hotel. Forget about digging through bags to get those old tattered warmups! And I did forget about them! Until about four months later... I get home from work one evening and have a package at the door. Sure enough, they found the bag, cross-referenced my race number with my name and address, and mailed it to me. Washed and dried. I kid you not.

Wow, I can't believe they sent them back to you. Usually it is hard enough to find them, hoping that no no else already took them. I did it the cold rainy year also. I thaught the course was good. I also thought the hills were not that bad, at least not as bad as you would think by reading the race website. Be prepared for miles 19 - 23, as I remember they are along some road that is almost like a highway. There are no people in this area and at least for me it seems like it lasted forever.

Thanks for all the great advice. I'm nervous about the hills but hearing your comments puts me at ease a bit. And, Sara, we've just changed our long run this weekend to Hinckley's hills. Thanks for the tip!

I wish I had some CTC gear but I have to wait for the new order to come in...I'll be in all black and going really, really slowly. I hope I have half the race you had in Boston!
