I plan on racing at the Buzzard Duathlon (NCN) in Hinkley on April 9th. All are welcome to join me for training at Hinkley (Belus Rd. Parking Lot), on Saturday March 18th and Saturday March 25th. Biking from 9:15-10:15am, then running after. The Hinkley course is a 3 mile rolling loop around the lake. Also check out the duathlon training series that the club will be putting on beginning March 26th. clevetriclub.proboards44.com/index.cgi?board=options&action=display&thread=1141439438

I assume you'll be parking at the transition site for this race? I'm so sad to have to miss this race this year, so I'd love to at least get down there and ride and run the course with you guys. But I'll be able to do an early season sprint tri while I'm in Texas that day, so that should be a worthy start to my multisport season.
Hope the weather cooperates for both the training days and the race - I think April 9 is the earliest Rick has ever had the Buzzard Du?

Will folks still be showing up for this workout despite 26d overnight Friday and 32d high on Saturday? I'm ansy for more outdoor riding, so as long as it's dry and snow is not coming down, I'm willing to be there.

Yes the Buzzard training is still on for Saturday. Dress warm. Several of us are now planning to bring our mountain bikes to ride on rather than our road bikes. Feel free to bring a road bike if you don't have a mountain bike. Or you can just come out and run. Plan is to ride from 9:15-10:15 and then run after.

You'll be mountain bike riding on the roads and footpaths or you're going to ride on trails? I have a beat-up commuter that I use for cyclocross fun rides if you're going to be in the grass and dirt. Either way, I'll be there and I'm sure we'll create our own heat soon enough.

Was planning on the roads/footpaths, but we can see who's game for what come Saturday. Consider it a farewell to the cold training day, Spring starts next week!

I've heard from several others who are planning on coming out to train at Hinkley this Saturday so there should be a good group of us there. And I also heard the Hinkley Buzzard fest is on Sunday. According to Mark S. nobody is going to want to be looking like road kill or the Buzzards may think you're breakfast.

Sorry to have missed this training session. By the time I got my cold weather riding gear together and did some maintenance on the 'forgotten since Fall' beater bike, it is too late to make it to Hinckley on time. Maybe next week I'll have my act together better. For now, I'll go for a lonely cold ride on the eastside

Me too.... I really wanted to come but I have this nasty sore throat and I thought it was best to do an indoor bike workout. Thanks for organizing, Amy........ I hope to make it to the next session. ANGIE

I missed it too cause I'm just a wimp. Too cold that early in the day. May ride later today.
Anyone else just prefer to train in the late afternoon? If I do much in the AM I'm shot for the rest of the day. Works better for me, if I have things to do, to do em first and excerise in the afternoon or evening.

Nice job to all who braved the cold this morning. The temperature was brisk, sky was clear, sun was out and the scenery was beautiful. What a perfect morning workout. Hope to see everyone again next weekend!!

Just wanted to say thanks Amy for a great training session. As a tri newbie, I found the training to be very helpful and everyone was very supportive!

We had a dozen people come out to Hinkley. It was great training and lots of fun. And yes there were Buzzards flying overhead. Join us again this coming Saturday. Biking at 9:15 and running a lap after. If you're interested in running a lap before, come out at 8:30. The CTC du series in CVNP starts Sunday.

I rode out of Hinckley on Sunday. I think it was a whopping 5 degrees warmer than on Saturday. A couple of laps around the loop (which was my real reason for coming down there, as Iwanted to check that out), dodging the buzzard gawkers, then out on the open road towards CVNP via Ledge/Everett Roads. Did a loop in the valley then back up the long hill and to Hinckley. Looking forward to the Du on 4/9. Hope its warmer than 30 degrees, but I am not placing any bets on it.

For clarification, there is a CTC du series training day scheduled for this Saturday (4/1) at 9am in CVNP from the Ira trailhead parking lot (located off Riverview just north of Ira Rd.)
There is no official club training at Hinckley this weekend. Members are encouraged to participate in the du training at Ira.

Roll call! So who is in for this one on this coming Sunday? I'm in.
Long term weather forecast, FWIW, is fairly positive - cold but sunny. No worse than what we've been training in for the last few months.

I'm in, and according to the participant list so far, Brooks is the only other person in my age group. So we are both going to place!! Seriously though, the participant list is kind of short.

I just signed on the dotted line. Both my wife and I will be racing, parents get to cheer us on with the little ones. I've always found Hinkley to be fun for the spectators.
Hopefully the third time will be a charm. A few years ago I slipped coming out of T1 and bent my derailluer hanger...DNF'd...only race to date I've never finished!
Last year I had a good race going until the second run. I think I went too hard down the hill when you come out of the park. Ended up tweaking my calf and had to walk for part of the final mile.
Best of luck to all who participate! Mark
