CTC had a solid show at the race - especially in the Sprint distance. I had a chance to talk to a few of you (Dave D., Brent M., Roger M.) and I saw a few other members of the Red Menace floating around. A few notes about the race:
The weather was fantastic - almost ideal. Its a good thing too, 'cause just 2 days earlier they had 10 solid hours of rain with no break. - most of the fields were wet and the rivers completely full - that would have SUCKED on race day - luckily we got mid 60s and sunny at the start - warming up to the low 70s.
HFP put on its usual high quality event. They changed the bike course this year and it seemed to have run a bit slower due to a few extra "rollers" - but I liked it a lot better - no cars to deal with. Last year the swim was a deep triangle that went way out into the lake (a bit intimidating for newbies). This year, they kept it close to shore with a long rectangle. The lake was warmer than the outdoor pool at the lodge.
Personally, I was thrilled - I took almost 7 minutes off my time from last year - even with a slightly slower bike course. Giddy up! My 61 year old dad, doing his first tri finished, and won his age group - of course, he was the only one in his age group!! None the less, its always inspiring seeing a close family member step up and take on something like this.
Rock on. mad
