I arrived at the St. Malachi race site at 9am for a 9:45am start. I looked around for Scott so that we could run together but did not see him So, I warmed up with Lou D. for 2 miles - we ran the last mile backwards and we talked race strategy....Lou gave me some great insight into warming up for a race and thoughts before the race which I will put to good use in the future. Anyhow, got to the start line and saw Angie and Joanne - wished them luck and lined up next to Lou...figured I'd keep him in sight as long as possible.....the man can run!! So, the race starts and the weather is perfect....like 55-60 degrees and clear. The first mile is fast...very, very fast as it is a fairly steep downhill first mile. Anyhow, there are some great runners here as I hit the first mile on my Garmin at 5:24 and the lead runners are about 300 yrds. ahead of me....the winning time ended up as 26 minutes. So, after this the course is a rolling up and down for miles 2-4 and the last mile starts flat with a good uphill .25mile finish. This race was a very good challenge with about 1200 runners doing the 5 miler. The CTC should be proud of our very own Lou Dregely for he won his age group with a blistering time of 29:30 and out of the 1200 runners, he took 21st overall. Way to go Lou.......unfortunately, I lost you after the first mile

I'm an idiot and forgot to mention that along with Lou, special mention goes out to another CTC member - Joanne Collins. Ok, get ready for this.......Joanne ran at a 6:40 pace and also won her age group.....blowing away the next finisher by a staggering :20+ second p/mile pace. Out of 1200 participants, Joanne took 73rd with her 33:18 time and was the 6th fastest woman overall..............WAY TO GO JOANNE AND LOU..........you guys/gals Rock!!
