I just recently decided to do a couple sprint TRIs this summer and I'm looking to learn and for training partners. I did a couple duathlons about 7 yrs ago, but never a TRI. I have good a running base, but not as much cycling and swim specific training. So I've come here. The other threads on this board have been very useful so far.
I work a second shift 11a-8p and live in Lakewood. I see most of your group events are 6pm weekdays--that is out for me. So I'm looking for anyone wants to ride or swim in the mornings.
That Tuesday morning swim group might work for me. i wonder if you'll still be out there even on the day after the holiday (7/5.) Swimming in Foster Pool has been nice, but I imagine Lake Erie is a totally different thing!
Thanks for your feedback, Lloyd

Thanks for being out there for my first OW swim. Up late from 4th July fireworks--so I was working on minimum sleep. You all are so dedicated!!
I made it to the swim at about 6:05 and everyone was in the water. Didn't know what to expect, but figured I wanted to swim at least 30 min. So I chased some others and followed along. First thing I learned is the sighting (without drinking water). I'll be out there again.
My next question: What is a good warm-up for a Sprint Tri?
Thanks, Lloyd

Lloyd- Generally I will do 5-10 minutes of each in reverse order. For running, slow jog with a 5-6 race pace efforts of 20-30 s. Same with the bike and the swim. Finish your warmup between 5-10 min before the start of the race. Is this what you are asking? ANGIE

Thanks Angie,
yes, that's what I was asking. What is a good warm-up before a Sprint distance race.
Any other suggestions?

My observation and experience is that the shorter the race, the longer you need to warm up.
Look at how long the cyclists warmed up before the opening time trials at the Tour. Riders were on their trainers for an hour or more, doing various aerobic and anaerobic intervals, all to prepare for a time trial that lasted about 20 minutes.

Lloyd, I was on Sundays trail run with you. I turned around after only an hour, at Snowville. Good run. Are you running the BT50K this year? As for tri training, make sure you do a few hard bricks before your first tri. Even with your extensive run background, your legs will not feel like your own the first few times you try to run off a hard bike ride. Another thing most newbies have to learn the hard way is that dry clothes do not easily go onto a wet body in transition.

in hotter weather you need less warm up time. Prior to the Athens olympic marathon, most of the runners wore cold suits(as opposed to warm up suits). We wear wetsuits. Lose a lot of fluids waiting for a wave start. I run thru my gears, check brakes and swim a little if possible. I figure I am warm after the swim. I have never stuggled to get my pulse up after a transition. To get loose I play hacky sacky the night before a race. (This may be ritual but it works for me)

Lloyd - excellent swim Tuesday morning - I had no idea it was your first open water lake swim until you mentioned it after! My first few open water swims were awful (thanks again Ben for saving my life). We'll be there next Tues from 6-7 AM!
