Hi! I am thinking of getting into tri-athalon training as a way to get back into shape. I have not worked out regularly since I had a baby just over a year and a half ago. I thought this might give me some structure and motivation to get back into a routine. I am a little nervous, however, because I do feel very out of shape and am not sure if I would fit in. I was a swimmer many moons ago but am somewhat confident in my ability to get back my technique there, but I have very little experience on the bike and have never been a great runner. Any advice or words of inspiration are appreciated! thanks

Advice: do it. We'd be delighted to have you. We're all just here to have fun. ;D
Jen can speak to the newbie activities for this year, but I am sure they will be ideal for someone in your position.

I was a swimmer too through college. did a few tris when in HS/college and then after, but it was hit or miss - no real training program.
Took 10 years off - got back into it a few years ago and have loved it.
from my experience - swimming will come back pretty quick (though the first month or so will be tough), biking is something that you can pick up and become proficient at fairly quickly (though it does take a lot of time in the saddle to get "good" - however I think most will express that cyceling is fun) running is hard. It takes a lot of time and effort but you will get better.
go for it - people here will support you and you can have a lot of fun

Definitely go for it! We have all had our challenges getting into this sport (for example, I used to celebrate if I finished running a mile on the treadmill and I didn't know how to swim - and that was just four years ago). Anyone can do a triathlon with enough perseverance. Plus, we are here to support you. Join us at the Newbies run and breakfast on April 9 if you can. (See here for details www.clevetriclub.com/newbies.html) We can talk more then. I look forward to meeting you! Jen

Hi, I hope you feel surrounded by support and encouragement. I am planning to do my first tri sometime this year; like you I am not a runner...but I am also not a biker or a swimmer. I strive for mediocrity in each area, but I have fun training, being better than I was a month ago, and meeting others. The CTC members I have met are open to newbies and introducing people to the sport. Please come on the 9th for the newbie run/breakfast! If you run slowly, even better, I won’t be alone at the end of the pack!
