I love going to NYC every November for the marathon, so why not make Lake Placid my first Ironman. Details on registration would be greatly appreciated (i.e, date and time it will open - if it fills in hours I do not want to miss out).

The closest hotel to the transition are is the Best Western Golden Arrow. It is also a non smoking hotel. The woman at the front desk said they fill up in about 20 minutes. I guess that means you have to call and find out when you have to be there to make the reservation. There are a number of other hotels close to the transition. I'm staying at the Hilton about a mile away.

The Crowne Plaza is also very close and a great place to stay. We stayed there on our scouting weekend.
the owner of the house we are staying at is the manager of the Crowne Plaza.
My opinion is it offers the greatest view of the city.

And if you are bringing family make sure to reserve one of those little electric cars for the weekend. They're great for zipping through heavy traffic on Main St.

I'll see how I feel Monday morning. At that point I may be considering a life of Olys.
