Given my recent foot injury last Monday (which still hurts a lot), I have had to stop running (as walking 20 yards) and it will probably result in no further running for the next 4-6 wks. Since Nov, I have been working specifically on improving my run. I introduced biking in Jan but only 1-2x per week. Now that I am injured, I plan on riding 5-6x/wk. So my question is this. . .has anyone utilized a plan that focuses primarily on one sport for part of the year, then focuses on a different sport for part of the year, then finally puts it all back together. How, if any, did it affect your performance (either postively or negatively)? thanks in advance.

I was running 5x a week last fall before i got injured, then i was forced to supplement rides for runs after that and rode 5x a week while barely running.
Now that im back doing both, im behind on sheer distance compared to those that kept running, but aside from that i dont feel like im behind. I still managed to drop about 20lbs without running, and running is coming along well enough....i just had to sacrifice my spring mary.

I'm not as hardcore as many of the people here.
That being said, I concentrate on running during the winter. I resume biking after the Cleveland Marathon 10K, and I resume swimming shortly before Memorial Day. I've seen modest improvements in swimming and biking, but since running has been my weakest link, I've been making solid improvements in my overall time. (Between 2006 and 2007, I shaved six minutes off my 5K at the end of the Cleveland Triathlon's sprint race.)
