Is there a swim group for really bad swimmers? And when I say really bad, let's just assume that means one (not me of course) has the ability to stay afloat and little more.
I've read about the Masters groups, but that would seem to imply one has, well, "mastered" something more than staying afloat and swimming some laps here and there.
Oh by the way, I could, errrr, one could, travel from north Akron to maybe Parma for this group.

My local YMCA (Lake County) has swimming classes for adults. I really have no idea what the program includes. But I bet if the person you're talking about is in the "can barely even do a lap" phase, it would be a place to start.

Well the person can grunt out a few hundred yards and could do a sprint without certain death, but needs assistance on technique. At this point sharing a lane may be dangerous for the other swimmers. Okay, I admit it is me. My goal this winter was to simply get wet and gain some confidence. Any "training" per se is alone just to get somewhat comfortable in the water. Being in a group that is far advanced than me is not what I need right now. Then again, I don't need to sign up for swim lessons for those who don't know how to swim at all either.

Gotcha. Sounds like you could just use someone to watch you in the water. Maybe another more aquatically-inclined club member. Or a coach. I've worked with Laura Kessler in the last few years and she's helped me tremedously.

What part of town does this person live? Also in high school swim team we used to watch videos of people showing the correct techniques. I have no idea the name of the video or where you get it, but I'm sure you could probably google it. Or, see if you can call a hs swim coach or college coach for names.
Most pools you can call and get private lessons. They should be relatively cheap.

I am trying to find something very close to home (Richfield) or work (Broadview Heights) and ideally both so there is ample opportunity to get some supervision wherever I am.

I second the recommendation on Laura Kessler. I drove out to Brecksville to see her, but she told me that if your facility will allow her in she will come to you. She offers a great deal for CTC members. Check out the CTC website and her info is there.
