I was wondering if any of you CTCers have diabetes, either kind, and if that has effected your training and racing at all??? If it has had any impact on your endurance levels or how often you refuel during races?? Do you use traditional bars, blocks and gels? Or do you use different snacks? Do you test before and after training sessions/workouts? Do you test while racing? Thanks in advance!

Tracie my son has diabetes and I am active in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. I know a lot of people who have type I (aka Juvenile) diabetes who also do endurance events. One has done IM Wisconsin several times. His name is Jay Handy and he has a website www.dswf.org/about.htm which is dedicated to helping people with diabetes live active lifestyles. Jay also coaches diabetic athletes. He is a great guy and I am sure he will be glad to talk to you. If you call him let him know I said hi. He is not local ( I think he lives in Wisconsin).

I work for Abbott Nutrition, formerly Ross Products. They have a line of products call Glucerna. They have cereal, shakes, bars, and snack bars. Honestly, I have not tried any of the products but we have gotten great reviews from the consumer. They would be located in the healthy living section of the grocery store. Check it out! Let me know what you think.
