I know ive used the dreaded W word too early, but i need to know something about the RR metroparks. Do they plow the bike path? What about down at the zoo?
I'm going to be doing an extremely run focused off season with a spring marathon goal and was wondering where a good place on the west side is for long runs aside from just around my neighbourhood roads?
Cheers.

There is a zoo run on Sundays throughout the winter, so they must plow there. When I lived on the west side, I was able to get many of my long runs in at the RR metropark (either on the bike path or on the road).

I've always found that they are good about plowing in the RR metroparks! The ice on the bike path can be a bit of a problem at times, but the roads are usually clear, so be sure to wear lots of bright/reflective gear and that way you're covered either way.

I've fallen on my butt a few times in the metorparks. They usually plow where they can, but tend not to salt the paths.
Man, I don't even want to think about this now.

where we have run from sweetwater - well i have done bi-weekly long runs in the winter from there on Sunday a.m. - plan to keep this up but may also scout out some other locations. we have run in all sorts of stuff - but generally the paths/roads are OK. having a decent pair of trail running shose is key
runs get much slower though due to weather and road conditions
always fun to run in january in the falling snow

I will be heading up the zoo runs on sunday morning starting in November. We will be meeting at 9:30AM. We usually run outside the zoo for a little bit and then go inside. The zoo is ALWAYS plowed... so we run there no matter what. We have run in some pretty nasty and cold conditions.... fun fun. Come and join us. Last year I also bought X-country skiis... what a great workout.... having these make me 'pray' for snow. ANGIE

The trails in Rocky river, between Puritas and the nature center, and the Towpath both get a lot of use in the winter. Even in deep snow the off road trail gets packed down within a few hours of a snowfall. I run outside all winter, no problem, unless there's been a thaw and refreeze, then it gets real slick.

I be in the rr metro park in the early mornings for various runs, I'll stick to the road which is usually clear and has good footing. reflective gear is a must as it is DARK, but traffic is very lite.

I go early in the morning all g’d up in reflective gear around shaker lakes. It's much better plowed than the side streets. You just have to watch out for the salt trucks, even if they see you coming - they keep going straight and spray you with salt…..Ouch!
I’m convinced they do it out of spite.

For winter running, I prefer the treadmill. Nothing like a 3+hour run indoors.

Those look awesome!
Thanks for the responses. I figured there had to be some place better than my local side streets which i found hit and miss last winter.
