So, I had my worst ride of my short career last night.
I was riding from home in Brunswick to Valley Parkway. Decided rather than take Boston-130th-Bennett I would change it up and go Boston-Benbow-Hunt-Drake-Bennett. I was feeling frisky, and ready to explore a little.
If you ever take Drake, end your ride at 130th! Do not, I repeat, DO NOT traverse Drake east of 130th toward Bennett unless you backpack across with your bike on shoulder (I wouldn't even risk walking the bike)! Should you find yourself "beyond the pale" of 130th, it is better that you would find yourself in the bowels of hell.
If you do, you are likely to hit a pothole (or be hit by a car attempting to miss said potholes), and have various and sundry parts of your bike and gear fall off.
Like a piece of your computer (to be exact, some sort of cover on the unit that attaches to the spoke), which you will only realize is gone once you have avoided the death holes and check your speed and mileage only to notice the screen has ceased working.
Or like your helmet mirror (which came in d**n handy on the pot hole slalom course checking to see if cars were approaching). I stopped, reattached (does this ever really last?), only to have it fall off again later in the ride. I said screw it, and rode the last three miles home on busy roads without.
So upon arriving home and starting my run, I crossed myself, thanked God for getting me home and ending this miserable ride safely, and resolved to make sure to post the worst road I have been on yet.
As a service to me and others, perhaps there should be a thread devoted to roads that should be avoided at all costs by cyclists. This would've come in handy yesterday will maneuvering through Hell's Kitchen.
