Anyone doing the morning Master's swimming at CSU? I am looking to join and wanted to know about the workouts and how many are swimming daily.
Thanks,
Mike

I'm there every MWF.
We have about 3-4 per lane so it's not too crowded. Mondays are typically distance/pulling. Wed. are stroke work, Fri are speed work (short sets). The total yardage is typically 4200-4800 yards per morning. It's a pretty good group of swimmers. Don't expect much attention from the coach. He writes our workouts on the board and each lane works together. He gives us a group A and group B sendoff for the fast/slower swimmers. I'm in the slow group- our 100 pull sendoffs are usually 1:35-1:40 and our 100 swim sendoff tends to be around 1:40-1:45 (just for reference). The fast lanes are much faster. Feel free to ask any other questions!

A handful of CTC members swim with the CSU group, but there are usually, I guess, around 25-30 swimmers overall. SOme are quite fast - former college, etc. But there is a range of skills and speeds represented.
The workouts are MWF at 6:00. I think the workouts are usually endurance-focused on Mondays, stroke-focused on Wednesday and speed/intervals on Friday. The total distance is usually around 3500-4500 yards.

The daily fee is $5.00
Entrance is more tricky. The first door that they open is directly across from the rec center parking garage. Everyone says they park there with no problems every day. I parked there for the first time on Wed. and got a ticket...
So park anywhere at your discretion, but the doors that are right across from the rec garage (on Chester) should be open. When you go in, just go to the first floor (down one flight) and find the locker rooms- they are well labeled.
Alternatively just walk around and try all the doors until you find one that is open. Or find a swimmer to follow...
Not too helpful, but you get used to the entry challenge after the first few times!

I was wondering if there are any beginners at the CSU Master's swim? Would you recommend something else instead? With Team in Training, we are getting access to Master's swimming and I need a lot of work and practice.
Thanks!

I would not really recommend CSU for a beginner. The coach does not interact with the swimmer and he just puts up the workout on the board. Although the pool is nice and the swimmers give each other support.
Try lakewood.... the coach is on -deck, interacts with swimmers and is happy to give advice if you ask. There are a number of beginners .. they usually swim together in a lane. The send-off times are usually at 3 levels to accomodate all. The group starts and stops together... this is nice for motivation. In fact, I believe a team in training group swims there now. WE meet on mon-wed at 7:30PM, thurs at 8:30 PM, sat at 7:30AM and sunday at 12:30PM.
