Well, I've been flip-flopping my racing schedule more than a presidential candidate and I think that I'm ready to commit to this race... An early half like this will be a great way to establish my Olympic base for the year. so.... I should be there. I have a few pals that live in the Detroit area that will be there too - should be fun.

I'm contemplating this one. It'd be my first half and let's just say I'm still chicken right now to sign up.

I think this is going to get a good turnout from the CTC. I have talked with a few others that are doing this as a primer for IM KY. I was told it is great first half ironman due to how flat it is.

I'm in for this...and I know several others are as well. looks like we could get a good CTC crowd.
FYI...if you register by 3/21 you get a sleevless racing jersey.....after that it is just a regular ole' tee shirt

Does anyone know if there is a deadline to sign up for this one before the price goes up? Active seems to have it at $150, but for some reason I recall it being cheaper before a certain date. Anyone have the scoop?

I can't seem to find any information as far as the pricing goes, but when I registered in early March, it was also $150 so it hasn't gone up yet. The website for this race kinda stinks, although I found a slightly better one on the race organizer's website which has course maps. There is also a little information about pricing, but most of it is left blank for the Half so that won't help you at all! The Sprint prices are filled in though and it looks like prices for that went up on 2/28 and go up again on 5/10 so I would guess it is the same for the Half. It is run by 3 Disciplines Racing, here is the website: www.3disciplines.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=51&Itemid=73

Phil...make sure Danielle is at the finish at about the 3:40-3:50 time frame so she can snap a picture of my finish!
....oh wait, I will still have to do the run at that point!

Yea I am not in...have not trained enough imo. Longest ride 33 so far and zero ow time in new wetsuit. So I think that would be a disastrous day although I suppose it could be fun...probably not.

Depending how many of those 30 miles rides you've done you might be in better shape for it than you think. You have 2 weekends to get in a handful of 50+ mile rides, and your run is there.
As far as swimming in the new wetty, you know how to swim, you just need to get in it a few times to know where to put the glide.

Well...I think it is official.....Aussie called Jen out.....
What is it going to be Jen?
For what it is worth, no one has alot of open water time at this point. Me specifically = zero.

None for me either, and i have a new wetsuit too.
Hopefully it warms to close to 60 for saturday.....although im swimming OW tuesday nights starting next tuesday regardless. Can't be colder than it was riding in the 30s in March.
eta - im not calling you out Jen, i just think you're much fitter than you're giving yourself credit for. If you logged 2 or 3 fifty plus mile rides over the next 2 weeks in addition to your regular 30 milers you might be pleasantly surprised come race day (assuming you decide to race)

Ouch. Sheesh! I certainly have not done "regular" 30 milers! Let's say a couple....I'm debating it however, just would be a long training day but I suppose a good way to gain some experience. You all are definitely making me really think about it that's for sure! Do you all have lodging, etc? I know I thought some people said there's not much there. I think I will see how much riding I get in in the next week or so and who knows!

There are a bunch of hotels within minutes of Sterling State park...Holiday Inn, Best Western, Hampton Inn...are all less than a mile or so.

So after this weekend of great training I really was wanting to sign up. However, saw a doc today about my left foot (ha, ha) that has been bothering me a bit. Had to go get a MRI. But basically he said pain is my guide (till I see him after MRI results) so as far as this race he said I'd have to do it with the idea that if my foot starts to hurt on the run I'd drop out. Not sure if I can do that. I guess I need to sit down and have a heart-to-heart with myself. Hopefully I'll be seeing him next Tuesday.....

If that's the case, and this race wasn't on your radar for the season....it's probably a good idea to sit it out and nail one of your key races later in the summer.
I'm all for being stupid and training/racing dangerously close to injury, but i would sit this one out if i were in your shoes.
