Thanks for posting this. I'm one of the race directors for the event. We are continuing to update the website and will have more details coming soon. We will go live and open registration on 2/1/09. Registration will be through active.com and we will also have an online printable form that can be mailed.
If anyone has any questions about the event, area etc...please feel free to send me a private message. I will try to post occasionally as the event is updated, and it is just about 2hrs or less from Cleveland.
We hope to see many CTC members there and we may be adding a category to the triathlon team with the best average time. Kristoph Kocan

That's the old Mountaineer weekend... We need something to replace it.

This race looks legit. Same date as Caesar Creek though. I think it is closer though. Even though I'll be coming off the Kansas 70.3, I think I'll still be down for this one. Mark D and Aussie, we can travel together if it fits into your schedule.

Hmmm. I think we just may have a reason (other than a Steeler game) to head to the great State of PA. Cool.

I'd definitely race Elite at this race. I want the $300 bucks dude! I may even try to rest a little for it. It is a two weeks after Kansas 70.3 though... may be hurting.

ps: Happy Birthday Kristoph ! Thanks Mark D. Sounds like you guys have some smack talk going on for our race which is great. We actually planned this event to fill in for the Mountaineer as we knew it got moved. Don't worry though our roads are not near as bad as the first (and last) few miles of that bike course. The elite category was put in there to draw some fast peeps and it's worked so far. We've got people from quite a ways away registering and may have a top 10 guy from IM Louisville coming too. Should make for a good fast day.

Don't those IM guys only have one speed?? haha. I am sure someone will get pissed about this one. Yeah, he's a one-speed pony. If he commits he should be in the mix but he's one of them pseudo pros. You know, the kind with a real job in the real world and all. Olympic distance races are not his specialty so I wouldn't be too worried

Here's a description of the bike course for both the sprint and olympic races along with an elevation chart for those of you thinking about doing our race: The sprint race is 1 loop. The Olympic race is two loops and the first loop is identical to the sprint race. Loop 1 (sprint/1st Olympic loop) Upon exiting transition and reaching the bike mount like there is a short (.5 mile) climb out of the park to the main road. There you make a right hand turn and begin about a 3 mile climb that is mostly gradual with one short steep (10% or more) section just under the 2 mile mark, then there's more gradual uphill to one more shorter, slightly less steep section around 3 miles in. After a right hand turn you have a short, fast flat section for about a mile then it's another right hand turn onto Limber road which is about a 1 mile straight slightly downhill stretch. After a left hand turn onto Ryan Road you ride just under a mile with one small little bump of a hill and it's a right hand turn onto Rte 86 at about the 5.75 mile mark. This is a wide open fast mostly downhill section of road that lasts for a good 2 miles. After the bottom section of the hill you turn right onto 198 at the Ice Cream Cottage and begin a short climb up past the dam. After this short climb there is about a 2 mile stretch of flat/false flat followed by a right hand turn onto Shultz Road. This is a short, fast and straight down hill section over the bridge and then there's a deceptive little climb of about 1/2 mile. Here, if you are doing the sprint, you reach the entrance road to the park and you will turn right and head back down into the park via the same road that is the initial climb right out of transition. Loop 2 (Olympic only): After completing the first lap Olympic racers DO NOT go down the park road. Keep on the main (Schultz) road and ride past the park entrance. You are now on the second loop which is mostly the same as the first loop with two exceptions. First, at about mile 11.5 where the first loop makes a left hand bend you will turn right onto Dickson Road for a short (1/4 mile) out and back. After the out and back you re-enter the same course as the first loop and continue on Dickson Road for a short (1/4 mile +/-) until you turn right onto Fischer Road. Here you make a short (3 mile) loop on Fischer, Limber then Ryan Road. The loop is rolling with one short steep climb. There is also a short fast downhill on Ryan Road (right about mile 14.75) that you will need to be careful on. This will be marshalled and marked because at the bottom of the hill you make a right hand turn back onto the 1st loop course right at the base of the short steep climb that was around the 2nd mile of the first loop. You will need to make sure you are in the right gear as you start climbing right after making the right hand turn at the bottom of Ryan Road. From here the 2nd loop is identical as the first loop and upon reaching the park entrance you will now go down the entrance road to the park. It should be emphasized that this is not a flat or fast course. There are very few flat sections that you can just cruise on and there are numerous 90degree turns, especially on the second loop.

KrisK,
Thanks for updates! And, also the elevation chart, showing it will be a challenging ride.......... How hilly is the swim? lol ;D
There is an interest in filling this race date, so there will be Cleveland'ers heading east to the hills.....

KrisK, Thanks for updates! And, also the elevation chart, showing it will be a challenging ride.......... How hilly is the swim? lol ;D There is an interest in filling this race date, so there will be Cleveland'ers heading east to the hills..... Brian Brian, The swim isn't too hilly, but there is a pretty good little slightly uphill run to transition. The ride is tough. Lots of climbing. I am working on getting an elevation for the run too as the 10k has a couple of nice little hills in the last 2 miles. FYI I didn't lay out the bike but I did lay out the run course, so I can't claim responsibility for the toughness of the bike. I did tell the co-director that did the bike course last week a lot of people would not like him after this ride! We intentionally picked this date, as it was the old Mountaineer date so we hoped we'd have a good turnout. Also, with the addition of the allegheny college rooms it's a great deal for anyone coming from out of town. Hope to see a good turnout from the CTC club.
