I've participated in the Ironamn in Lake Placid five times since 2001. Had enough of that, but I am heading up there this year to vacation and support Sam and Joe in their first-time Ironamn quest. Looking forward to being on the outside, looking in. As such, I plan to blog daily throughout my trip, which begins Thursday the 17th. placid2008.blogspot.com/Also, since I figure I'll be pretty mobile on race day, I also set up a Twitter page and plan to update that throughout the day. twitter.com/lakeplacid

We arrived yesterday in Lake Placid and it is beautiful. The only signs of the race are the med tent and trailer on the oval. It will be interesting to see how things change in the next couple days. . . Now that I'm on vacation, I'm actually planning to update my blog as we go. I finally got Morgantown out there and have to do yesterday's Boilermaker 15K. . . . now I can say my longest run of the year is 9.3! Don't know if my ramblings are illuminating for folks, but good therapy for me. p.s. - Aussie- thanks for the kind words!

The time is drawing near. Bib numbers are up and the countdown has begun to get the items arranged and thrown in the car for a Wednesday departure.
It will definitely help to know there are some CTC peeps out there on the course. I will be wearing my CTC tri top for the event. So make sure to tell me to smile and remind me that I am having fun as I shuffle by.
I look forward to reading everyone's blogs.
See you in LP!

Lake Placid race #: 145 Brenden 278 Ryan 2167 Sam 610 Joe 635 Jay 1487 Ben Did I miss anybody? p.s. Why do they always start numbering with the guys then number the gals? I was up in the 2300's and had to run thru the grass all the way to the bike start in '06. Can't those young bucks handle the long transition. . . . p.s. 2 - oh yeah, my transition tip if it is rainy and/or muddy: duct tape around my bike shoe cleats until the pavement saved mud packing into my cleats.

Joined John Sustercik and about 10 others on the downhill into Keene. Two times down that hill was enough for me. The athlete meeting is tonight and gear and bike dropoff tomorrow morning. Drove the course after the downhills. No surprises there. Ran into Kurt Molter. Dude is looking FIT! Bet he tears it up on Sunday. Good luck to everyone.

Well........Here we go. Jodi surprised us by showing up in Lake Placid. Hooray for her! It sure will be nice having a CTC cheerleader here. 60% chance of thunderstorms all day long. We have had some huge ones the last few days with high winds and hail. Cross your fingers for us on that one. It is hugely humid and that tends to create the big ones that just come charging down the mountains. Everyone looks fit and ready so it comes down to how we handle the things we can't control.
Wish us luck!

John Sustersic (# 1710) came out at 1:25.28 and Tony Thomas (#1785) at 1:18:15.
It is wet and cold out there. We saw Jay, Ryan, Tony, Joe and Sam come out of the water. Great start everyone!
We are now back at the house letting our clothes dry and we bought ponchos. I would love it if the rain stopped and our purchase was unnecessary, but it looks like it will rain all day right now. Hope we don't get a repeat of IM Wisconsin 2006. Definitely can say I'm glad I'm not racing today, but am very proud of those who are!

The pros were so fast through swim. I was impressed by how cool and calm they looked running up towards T1. I've always run throgh there like the tasmanian devil.
It's still raining in LP. We are getting ready to head out again.

We saw Jay, Ryan and Brenden start their second lap of the bike. The rain is relentless, but the athletes look calm.
We're checking out of one condo and moving 2 doors down. Don't know if we'll have internet access once we go. . . .

Saw Joe, Tony and Sam finish the bike. They were wet, but smiling still. Now, all Cleveland folks are out on the run. We saw Ben go by, but he didn't hear us.
Wish we could have just stayed out, but we were so wet that we both were shaking. I think Sam and Joe will understand if we take a break to get dry and warm again. We'll be there at the finish for sure!
Great job CTC folks!

12:51.15- Happy 21st Birthday Brendon Barton. You are an IRONMAN. A legal ID and a Finisher shirt are the perfect ingredients to a really bad hangover on Coventry.

I saw Brenden heading up the final hill and he got a huge smile on his face -- he knew he was coming in under 13 hours!!
I saw Sam run in the first loop and then back out around mile 14. She looked great!!!
OK, we came back in once the rain started again. My feet have been wet all day and I'm whipped!
Bonus -- I did get to see Jodi. Her buddy finished 5th overall and is going to Kona!
Great job everyone!!!
