Here we go!
Male versus Female Nov 23 through Dec 31 Swimming - 1 point for every 100 yards Biking (road) - 1 point for every mile Biking (stationary) - 1 point for every 3 minutes Running - 4 points for every mile
Track your daily entries and then submit to clevetriclub@yahoo.com every Friday. I will post weekly results.
I can't figure out how to post the Excel tracking spreadsheet I created. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Do we need to do anything to register or simply send in our results on the 30th and then you'll know we're in? I am excited for this! It will make me get off my turkey butt on Friday or Sat and run further than I probably would have otherwise!

You do not need to register - just talk some trash here on the Forum to participate. And yes, send in your weekly totals to clevetriclub@yahoo.com every Friday.
Get the tracking spreadsheet by going to the home page and clicking on the link. If you do not have Excel, let me know at clevetriclub@yahoo.com and I will send you a different version.

Hey Suzi,
I just sent my Friday totals but I'm thinking I sent it wrong......I'm not good at all with Excell so can someone give a quick description of how to save and then send this spreadsheet for those of us that are excell-illiterate......thanks.
Anyhow, if my totals where hard to decipher it was a 7.10 mile run for Friday the 23rd.

So we're zeroing out the first set of numbers and just entering our own, then send it to you starting next friday and you'll compile it all?
Cool.

I will set the record for the least in a day.
.5
Yes, I swam yesterday for 50 yds. Got grossed out by the color and the taste of the pool at the Y and left.
Who knows that 1/2 point could be the difference between winning and being the first loser.

Wow, .5. Excellent! Yes, just type over the numbers in red (and the name), entering zero where you didn't have anything to log. Here is how I would send it. When it is open, go up to the left top and click "File" then "Save As". Save it somewhere on your computer and use it to track for the week. Don't forget to "save" after you enter the numbers. Then on Friday, send it to clevetriclub@yahoo.com by composing a message and attaching the saved Excel file. Sorry if this is so complicated, but posting everday for a month I thought would be crazy. If you really can't do it, let me know and I will work something out for you (for a fee ...

I realize this is cross-posted, but I'd like some clarification: Is the winning team determined by total points, or by average points per team member?

We will make an adjustment for the number of participants on each team to even it out. Not a straight average though. We did something last year and I just need to revisit the formula...

Results are up for the first 8 days: www.clevetriclub.com/files/vtc_totals.xlsLet me know if anything looks funky. I am still looking into how to even things out fairly so that all points contribute something... Ladies, ladies, ladies....(including myself).

I don't see my numbers on the list. Should I re-send them, or is the list not totally updated?

Preliminary totals are available: www.clevetriclub.com/files/vtc_totals.xlsYou will see three tabs at the bottom - I added one for this past week's results and then a "Totals" tab that sums both weeks. We are missing a few results: Katy, Phil, Charlie, Rob R, Brian L, Ryan M, Chris R. Please send in when you have a chance. As far as adjusting to make the participant numbers even...instead of taking a straight average, what if we make an adjustment first for those who are in active training for a long course race (IM, Half, Marathon, etc.)? What do you think?

I like it. That way, it will encourage those who are training for shorter distances to sign up for the competition and not feel intimidated by the big numbers put up by the IM competitors. I'm not training for anything next year, but I think my totals would be good for a half-IM status.

I would say this is a good idea for the future of this contest, and I think more importantly the rules need to be set before the start of the VTC!

So let's stick with what we did last year...
"If the number of participants differs between the two teams, I will equal out numbers and volume by taking the median person’s volume on the smaller team and multiplying it by the number of members that team is short."
...since that is what I indicated we would do before this competition started. We will save the "long course race adjustment" for the next VTC.

Last week's totals, but I am still missing a few folks. www.clevetriclub.com/files/vtc_totals.xlsFor those that don't send their missing results in by the time the VTC wraps up, we will remove them from the totals. So no one biked outside last week? Just a couple more weeks - and these are the tough ones! Cookies, chocolate, egg nog, alcohol.....MMMMmmmmmm.....

Preliminary results are up: www.clevetriclub.com/files/vtc_totals.xlsStill waiting on a few submissions from this last week. On the "Totals" tab, there are several participants highlighted that have not submitted since week 1. If we don't hear from them, they will be removed from the final VTC results. We swim/bike/run through 12/31!!! Then jump in the lake...

Should we send our weekly points sheets in on Friday the 28th or wait until Monday the 31st when the contest ends?

You can wait and send them in at the end - thanks for asking!

It has been one week since my last confession....and I've done nothing to help the guys out. Any points for taking time to finish plumbing a house and getting the family moved in before childbirth (my wife, not mine)?
For these and all the sins of my past life I am truly sorry.

Your wife gets the points for that, not you! In fact, I am getting extra points because my husband is putting in a new kitchen floor.
