Are you a new triathlete or new to the club? Come join us for a brick workout on Sunday, MAY 4th (RESCHEDULED) at 8:30am at Sweetwater Landing in the Rocky River Metroparks!
I know what you're thinking...
"What the heck is a brick?!"
A brick workout is a bike followed by a short run. It's a great way to train your legs for what it feels like to come off the bike in a triathlon.
We'll be meeting at Sweetwater and doing an easy bike ride (up to an hour, but ALL ability levels and speeds are welcome!) followed by a short run off the bike. Then, we'll head over to Second Sole in Rocky River for some good conversation, food, and a special discount (TBA) to buy some new training gear. Second Sole is opening their store early for us--thanks, guys! This is a great opportunity to meet other new triathletes and current members!
Everyone is welcome, and we really encourage all newbies to attend! Please RSVP here. Hope to see you then!

Ahhh I was all excited to attend this, until I realized it's the same day as the Hinkley Du

Yes, unfortunately they are the same day. Hopefully anyone who's not racing that day can attend!

We're doing a Sunday this time because it works better with Second Sole. They are opening the store early for us and don't open until noon on Sundays, so it gives us time to do a workout and get to the store before it opens.

So I had wanted to have a bike by this brick workout but that isn't going to happen since I am going to have to order it. Is there a time I could come for the run? How long of a run will it be? Or about what time will you be heading over to Second Sole? I'd still like to try to come if possible even though I can't bike to meet people and get some knowledge

Hey all! The brick has to be rescheduled for May 4th. Same time and place, but different day! This will probably work better as we'll avoid the crossover with the Hinckely Du. Hope to see everyone there! Please RSVP here or to ctcnewbies@yahoo.com by Friday, May 2, so that I have an idea of how many people to tell Bill to expect at Second Sole. Thanks!
Jen, I figured we'll probably roll out for our ride around 8:45am and ride until 9:30-9:45 or so, and then do a short run of no more than 30 minutes afterward. We'll probably head up to Second Sole around 10:30ish. Hope that helps!
See you then!

Actually, hopefully since it's been R/S I will get my bike by then. Hoping to go order it tomorrow after work! Yay!

Are the newbie brick sessions always on Sundays?
Do you have any other dates already scheduled?

This is a one-time, special opportunity as Second Sole is opening early for us and Sunday works best for them. I'm sure there will be plenty of other opportunities for newbies training--keep an eye on the forum for the latest!

I would encourage any newbies to come to the monday night brick. Very newbie friendly and people of all abilities. Both the bike and the run are out and back so no one gets lost, and even if you're not fast, we all start and finish together.

Don't forget to RSVP for this Sunday's brick (May 4) and special shopping day at Second Sole! Either post here or RSVP to ctcnewbies@yahoo.com as soon as you can. I need to let Bill know how many to expect at the store. Hope to see you there!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get a call this week that my bike is in and can go in before Sunday to get fitted and have it for Sunday. If not, I will probably try to coordinate it so I come for the run or just meet up at Second sole.

I am not a newbie, but I think I will be coming. Besides, I always feel like a newbie, no matter how long I have been doing this.

Yay! So I'm super excited to get my bike Sat. am fitted and all. Just curious if the newbie brick could get cancelled due to weather. Thanks!

I plan on still leading the brick if it is raining...we're washable, right? If there is lightning or torrential downpours, we may have to bag it, but I'll definitely be at Sweetwater and we can make a game time decision if need be. Looking forward to seeing everyone there! Glad your bike is coming in time, Jen!

I'd like to attend, because I just joined the tri club, but I also just signed up to participate in the Stow Silver Springs Biathlon this Sunday morning. I look forward to future events. Someone above mentioned a newbie Monday night brick. Is that something that's ongoing? thanks!

Alright, this should be the last change...!
Unfortunately, this Sunday Second Sole has another conflict that they could not reschedule. We will still have the Newbies Brick starting at 8:30am, and afterward we will head up the hill to Caribou to grab coffee. Hope to still see many of you there!

Keeping my fingers crossed about the weather. I got my bike today and just riding it in the store on the trainer was awesome. Too bad it's pouring outside but I might tool around a bit on it in the garage to get used to the clipless pedals so I won't be terrifically horrible tomorrow.
One question-I did buy biking shorts but should I wear those tomorrow for the brick? They would be great for the bike but probably not fun to run in. Thanks.

Just played around in the garage and was doing ok with the clipless shoes but then almost took a nice spill so I'm a little freaked out about coming tomorrow! I don't want to be/get in anyone's way or cause an accident!!!

Jen- It's really, really hard to tool around in small spaces in clipless pedals at first. Take it to a very large parking lot (like a church) and do some real riding and you will see that it is not that bad. Or even just ride around the neighborhood. If I was riding around my garage I'd probably fall over too.

You can run in bike shorts. Feels like a diaper, but it still works. Or, you can ride in running shorts. Might get some chafing, but you won't be riding long enough to cause much seat pain. Another option is to wear spandex shorts under your bike shorts and peel in-between bike and run.
If I wake up tomorrow and am motivated, I'll probably be joining you.

I brick in my bike shorts all the time. You get used to the feeling.

I just wanted to say thanks to those CTC members at the newbie brick today. It was nice to have some people out with me when I was on my bike for the first time that I felt like they were looking out for me. It definitely helped me gain some confidence and want to ride more!!! Thanks!
