I'm interested in the clinic. Is it all on deck while the others are doing the swim challenge?
Can I do both, the clinic and the 25 x 100?
thanks

The clinic will be partially on deck and partially in the water.
The current plan is to have an optional 50x50 challenge after the clinic, so if you want to do the clinic and get some yardage in that is a possibility.
Email Danielle your information if you are interested.

Mark, I was seriously looking to tackle the 100X100 but I know I can't complete it in 2 hrs ... best case scenario I'd need about 3 hrs and 15-20 minutes (and that's with planets aligning and me having a kickass day!) and it looks like the clinic is only 2 or 2.5 hrs. So I settled on 50x100 ... what is our pool time?

Post by djolliff on Feb 9, 2010 21:38:13 GMT -5
Tiffany we have 4 hours of pool time from 9:30-1:30 so if you would like to change your distance you are more than welcome just email me and let me know.
I have had a few people ask about the challenge/clinic....you do NOT do both, just pick one. both events start at 9:30 and run separately. The clinic will be 2 hours of land and pool instruction followed by an optional 50x50 for those who would like for the remaining 2 hours.
As for the challenge it begins at 9:30 and runs until 1:30, the clinic portion is NOT involved. You jump in and start swimming your yards right away you have all 4 hours to finish. I am currently working on different ways to break up the 100's with drills, kicking, and swimming to mix it up a bit...more details to follow on that.
For the clinic fill out the registration stating clinic only. For the challenge fill out the registration for the distance you would like to attempt and the pace you swim at, this will help me arrange you into lanes accordingly. You do NOT have to complete 100x100 to be in the challenge.....you can pick 25, 50 or 75x100...whatever you are comfortable with. Both the challenge and the clinic are for all ability levels.
Please email me at nell2310@neo.rr.com with any questions

Tips on where to park might be helpful, too. I'm sure there's others (like me) that have never been to Cleveland State Univ. Thanks!

I would suggest parking on Chester Ave. The metered parking should be free, but be sure you are legally parked (watch for restricted hours, etc.) because they hand out lots of parking tickets in that area. Also, there is a parking deck next door to the rec center. If there is an attendant I think it is $6 to park in the deck. There may not be a parking attendent there though.

There is also a metered underground deck directly beneath the rec center. The entrance is on Chester right before the entrance the multistory deck. Not sure if they monitor the meters on Sunday, but when Jen and I go on weekdays I park there. You'd probably pay less to park there than in the multistory garage, unless you're planning to be there for several hours.

Will we be using the 50 meter long pool for the challenge and circle swimming?

Post by alison on Feb 15, 2010 14:23:45 GMT -5
The pool is currently set up for short course yards. The deep end is reserved for diving practice, so we will be in the shallow end and the practice pool.
We will be making lane assignments based on the repeat time you choose. There will be plenty of room to spread out so there may not even be a need to circle swim, but you can work that out with any potential lane mates that morning.

we are looking into the parking situation and hope to have a more for sure answer on where to park and go soon....stay tuned!!! The total participants have grown to 24- 8 of which completing the clinic 6 for 25x100 7 for 50x100 and 3 for the mack daddy 100x100. As of now everyone should have plenty of room to swim crowded lanes should not be an issue.
Be sure to be on deck ready to go by 9:15 with your registration money and to sign a waiver. This will also give you time to chat/meet with your lane mates and make any adjustments needed
The challenge is going to be broken up into sets of 5 or 10 depending on distance to mix things up a bit....more details to come!!!!!!

Danielle, would it be okay if my friend and I who are both 8 months pregnant broke up the 25 100s however we'd like? I suspect it will just be swim, pull and kick, because my friend doesn't know any drills or alternate strokes. This would be a stretch swim for us, because typically she and I swim 13 100s when we get together on the weekend, but if we had plenty of rest in between, I bet we could do it! Let me know what you think!

Jen, you bet. You two can split up the 25x100 any way you would like. Pick a pace that gives you plenty of recovery. I have no alternate strokes planned for any of the distances and the 25x100 set has no drill work, but you guys feel free to do whatever floats your boat! Glad you guys are thinking of coming out, just shoot me an email with names and what pace you would like to try so we can figure out a lane for ya.....nell2310@neo.rr.com
