In case anyone may be interested and was not yet aware, there is a HUGE new gym, Life Time Fitness opening in Beachwood.

The facility is scheduled to open in mid-January 2010. It is located off Richmond Road between Harvard and Chagrin. The facility will be open 24 hours with the pool being open from 5 AM to midnight and will always have lap lanes available.
They have been running a number of specials to provide people incentives to sign up now.
Anyways just wanted to pass along the info as I went ahead and signed up.

Thanks for this message, Janet! I have been dying for something to open in that area other than the John Carroll Rec Center!!! pool open 5AM to midnight?!?! I'm in!

I am not a huge fan of fitness centers because I have trouble getting myself to actually go there and I hate treadmills. I haven't been a gym member for the last 2 years and that has been fine for me.
BUT, this place looks so freakin' awesome I actually considered it for a while. Multiple swimming pools (which is why they can have lap swim all the time) and a rock climbing wall has got me really tempted.
Maybe Janet can bring we along as a guest sometime so I can play around before I buy 
Kristen, Does the John Carroll pool have open swim open to the public, or is it alum/members only?

Whoa! They are going to havve a climbing wall. That is awesome! And within a short bike ride of home! They can't open soon enough!
kkovach, in the meantime you can also use the Notre Dame College pool on Green Road in South Euclid. Pretty nice place to swim! They have morning, early lunch and evening hours. Drop in fee is $6 per visit and they also have montly membership rates.

Brandon, do you know the exact times for open swim at Notre Dame? I looked on their website a few weeks ago to see about open swim but couldn't find anything.

yeah...the website stinks. here's the schedule through March
morning swim:
Mon. Wed., and Fri 6:30am - 9:30am
Tues, Thurs. 8:00am - 9:30am
lunch swim:
Mon-Fri 10:30am - 1:30pm
evening swim:
Mon. - Fri. 7:30pm - 9:30pm
weekend swim:
Sat/Sun 10:00am - 3:00pm
you can ask for a schedule at the desk when you arrive to hang on the fridge or whatever...they are on the back of the calendar, which has holiday closings, etc. on it along with university sporting events

hey alison - sorry about the late reply  i believe that jcu is only for alum/members. however it is quite easy to sneak in... haha. jcu has pretty bad open swim hours though... 11-1 or 6-9 weekdays. but who needs carroll when you have orange masters practice  see you wed. girl!
Brandon- thanks! ND sounds great, i will look into that. do you know if they have a masters team that practices there??

no, don't believe there is a masters team that swims there. I think Orange or CSU are the only teams on the near east side.
as for JCU, i just looked into that last week and they only have open swims for community members over christmas and summer break. it's a pretty good price but indeed, the hours are not convenient.
